Facebook privacy concerns raised over photo auto-tagging

Uh... people are concerned about being recognised in a pic they posted on the interweb...
Simple answer to that and yes, peeps are too quick to post in public.
 
One privacy concern after another. If it's such a risk, stay away from it ;)

It's more than that. I have my profile set so that my pics are only viewable by my friends.

I don't want my photos of my kids or my kids friends being auto-tagged and then mistakenly linked to an outside gallery that is not mine.

Facial recognition is not that good yet that it is 100% perfect. If someone searches on someone else... and my kids photo pops up, I don't want that being seen outside of my profile.

There are too many predators out there already and FB is not helping us secure our own content.

They should have made this feature opt-in... not opt-out.

But yeah... as somebody said... don't put it on the internet if you don't want it shared.

People are just mad though cos Facebook takes so many liberties with their personal stuff.

Facebook takes no liberties with anyone's personal stuff... Facebook are wrongly trusted by consumers with their personal stuff. You don't even know who they are blah blah... it's a free service blah blah... you dont read the t&c blah blah.

Has that stopped working?
Besides... whats a software bug between users/developers. Since FB is updated regularly, you can be sure there are loopholes aplenty.
 
Facebook privacy is a joke anyway. All the settings are about how much your friends etc can see. The privacy issues are with what data the advertisers get....and that isn't subject to all the impressive array of privacy options that users so carefully configure. Remember the UID fiasco...yeah.

That assumes FB uses no deceptive tactics, which they do.

i.e. Its the same as when a bank has hidden fees. You can blame the consumer that he/she didn't properly educate themselves, but realistically the bank carries a part of the blame too.

Never mind FB privacy being a joke, people must realise that "Internet privacy" does not exist. It's been a long established fact that anything you post on the Internet should be considered in the public domain, and therefore will more than likely get used, or abused, in ways you don't like.

If I included my CC details in this post, must I then blame my bank if someone buys half the internet with it? (lol, not possible but yeah :)) Of course, if the bank or other institution did this, that would be a whole different story.
