Yep.
Who is claiming 'emo' as metal?

. Your assertion that thrash is the "purest form of metal" I find a bit odd, as thrash is simply a sub-genre within the very large and varied realm of metal.
I mean that thrash was the spring board from whence it all came *; your death metals, your black metals, your grindcore, your hardcore, your "new" core -for lack of a better word, your grunge -cringe - your screamo and your (gulp) emo. I guess if we have to be pc, then it ALL came from the new wave of British heavy metal -which in turn came from your hard rock -> rock -> blues -> etc.
When I say "purest," I mean that everyone retained the "thrashy" guitars sound. Power-chord-striking (I can't make any music, nor can I read music anymore, but I'm sure you know what I mean, right?)
*yes, I know that's a bold statement to make
You sound mega-elitist. Try not to take that the wrong way.
To me most things have a place, note not all, but many things do. There is, after all, "a time and place for" most things!
Sure, not certain what all this emo-talk is about though? I don't have a preferred genre myself - Good music is good music, no matter what little box you wish to place it in.
The emo thing came up with the Jesters thing and the type of music being played there, etc. It just iritates me a little when the emo kids come around with their little attitudes of emo being the one and only genre in metal that means anything. If the emo kids only knew how the old metal heads had to "fight" for the music -so that there could be potential spin-offs for, said, emo kids to enjoy...maybe they'd have more respect for how it all came about. Sorry, slightly OFF-off topic. (Suit-guy must be very annoyed with all this...sorry guy. No harm/offence meant)
Fair enough, but at the end of the day isn't the thrill of listening to a good song totally independent of how it is labelled? No harm in doing so, but I know so many people who will turn their noses up at something, simply because it does not fit into a preconceived genre that a person enjoys.
Oh, yeah, what I've been obsessing about the whole time. Doh.
AGREED! Give the music a chance, whatever the claimed genre...but don't go calling a guitar a bass -as closely as they may be related, they're still not the same thing, right?
God, I'm rambling, time for food.
What do you mean 'real instruments' and 'real musicians'?
I mean, a group of people who sit and create something as a collective with real instruments. OR a person with so much talent that they're able to create something for all instruments, go out and record each intrument individually. To me a real musician is not someone who can sit behind a computer and make music for all instruments. It's the process of knowing how to read/write music and recreating it on actual instruments...not using various samples...it's the person / people that can play that/those instrument(s) live. Wait, there we go...live performances with actual instruments. (Took me a while, but I eventually got there.) All this said though, I'm not taking anything away from DJ Basement-dweller who created a whole song without knowing how to play a single instrument in his...well...basement! You still have to be talented and, of course have an ear for music!
Side Note : I think it's quite ironic for all this to come from a person who can't play an instrument, nor create any music...but I THINK I have an ear for music...or I'd like to BELIEVE I do

Also, I by no means claim to be any kind of music expert, but I base it all on what I've experienced/seen through the decades...how it all evolved, if you will.
Ok, seriously now...BACK TO SUITS!
