The health pioneer Sebastian Kneipp’s lifelong naturopathic studies formed the foundation stone in 1891 for the origin and development of the Kneipp Group. Today it is an internationally operating company based in Würzburg that exports high-quality pharmaceutical and dietary products as well as body care and bath products to many countries around the world. It sees itself as a modern health brand with traditional values.

In 1890 Sebastian Kneipp met the Würzburg apothecary, Leonhard Oberhäußer. They became close partners and good friends through their shared conviction of doing good using naturopathic medicine and healing remedies. Using natural plant essences and other pure ingredients as a base, they created the formulas that still to this day constitute the basis for Kneipp’s products.

After carrying out the first very successful tests on natural remedies together in 1891, Sebastian Kneipp entrusted his friend and fellow apothecary with the legacy of his lifelong studies and granted him the exclusive rights to develop, produce and sell pharmaceutical, cosmetic as well as dietary products “under the name and with the image of Father Sebastian Kneipp.” These contracts formed the basis of the Kneipp Group of today that has been producing high-quality pharmaceutical, dietary and body care and bath products under the Kneipp brand name for generations. The company continues its commitment to the holistic legacy of its co-founder and eponym.

The Kneipp Group currently has approximately 300 employees in Germany and more than 400 worldwide. The Würzburg based company has two modern production sites. At the main production site in Ochsenfurt-Hohestadt near Würzburg dragées, lotions und bath oils, one of the most important areas of activity, are produced. Amongst other things, the research and development laboratories, quality control and the logistics department are also located here.

In the spa town of Bad Wörishofen, where Sebastian Kneipp based his activities, bath salts and sparkling bath tablets are produced and a complex residue analysis of all raw materials is carried out.

The Kneipp Group is an independent division of the Hartmann Group that operates worldwide. Apart from the classic supply of chemists, the Kneipp Group distributes its products mainly through drugstores and food retailers.

The Kneipp Group has been operating successfully on an international level with its subsidiaries in the Benelux-Countries since 1951, in Switzerland since 1996, in France and Japan since 2008. It distributes its products through its distribution partners in a further 18 countries. The successful expansion of existing markets, e.g. France, Czech Republic, Japan and USA, is just as much a focus as is the opening of new markets, e.g. in Asia and Eastern Europe. The range of bath and body care products is of particular significance to the Kneipp Group’s international business.

Today, the Kneipp Group is a modern, globally active company with considerable development potential that continues to heed the important legacy and holistic philosophy of its co-founder and eponym.
