Pretoria - The controversial world youth festival held by the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) late last year may have cost R100 million but it "helped to free Egypt".

NYDA chairperson and ANC Youth League vice-chairperson, Andile Lungisa, made this claim in Midrand on Tuesday after Cosatu demanded an audit of the 17th World Festival of Youth and Students.

The NYDA earlier said the festival had cost R72m - considerably less than the R100m that has now been confirmed.

Egyptian revolt

Lungisa said that Egyptian youth who had attended the festival in Pretoria in December, had recently been "at the forefront of the Egyptian revolt".

"I'm not saying we started the protests, but before the festival there were no protests in Egypt.

"After the festival, there were. Draw your own conclusions," Lungisa told the media.

He believes the festival "changed the world's perspective".

He also claimed the festival played a role in the recent protests in Tunisia and the fighting for the separation of South Sudan.

Lungisa couldn't say how many youths from Egypt, Tunisia and Sudan had attended the festival, but had numbers for other countries.

He said there were almost 2 000 Zimbabweans, 242 Cubans and 500 Indian youngsters at the festival.

Eish, how dumb can these ANCYL appointed dudes be? Does he even know what's happening in Egypt? How can two guys who attended this things start something so big, they can't even start a wave in a soccer stadium! Besides the Festival was a beer fest with no speakers.

I'm not saying I started the protests, but before the fart there were no protests in Egypt.

THE BODY PARTS MEETING

One day the different parts of the body were having an argument to see which should be in charge:

The brain said "I do all the thinking so I'm the most important and I should be in charge."

The eyes said "I see everything and let the rest of you know where we are, so I'm the most important and I should be in charge."

The hands said: "Without me we wouldn't be able to pick anything up or move anything. So I'm the most important and I should be in charge."

The stomach said: "I turn the food we eat into energy for the rest of you. Without me, we'd starve. So I'm the most important and I should be in charge."

Then the rectum said: "I think I should be in charge."

the stomach was all queasy,
the hands were all shaky,
the eyes were all watery,
and the brain was all cloudy.
They all agreed that they couldn't take any more of this and agreed to put the rectum in charge.

The moral of the story?

You don't have to be the most important to be in charge.... just an *******!
 
So the ANCYL is responsible for inciting revolt, causing dissent and interfering in the governance of a sovereign nation?
Can we thus also lay any deaths in the riots at their feet?
At least they finally admit it...

What an inflated (inflatulated?) sense of self-importance! But I'm no longer shocked. It's par for the course and I don't expect anything different from these kiddies, though the R100m hurts like hell.

As an aside, I do expect a better perspective on the Tunisian & Egyptian revolts from adults, especially the media. I got nearly as irritated hearing CNN, BBC, Al Jaz and others going on about the Important Role of Social Media in these protests. What rubbish. With just over 3000 tweets from 82 million Egyptians inside Egypt (even after the voice-to-text portal), the journalists very badly lost perspective. Overall the reporting by Western Media incl Al Jazeera was atrocious. These journos seem to think everyone's like them - YouTwitFace narcissitic egomaniacs who think reality is what the media say and do. The hoi polloi are irrelevant because if it's not tweeted, poked or tubed it doesn't exist for them. Disturbing.
