I want to buy a laser printer but I don't want to pay more than R1000 and I want to get the most economical one available.

It's only going to do between 200 and 500 prints per month.

Any suggestions?

The entry-level HP's. I've got a 1010 and it's the oldest piece of pc kit I own. Never given a moments hassle in years. You can't go wrong with one.

Same. Those things are epic.

@Piesang: The key is to get one where the whole drum thing is exchanged with each new cartridge, not just the ink.

Also, avoid colour lasers...the ink is expensive.

Only thing where the 1010 sucks is that its not a network printer. Also 1010 is off the market...I think it was replaced w/ 1020.

Just remembered: Make sure you can get Win7 x64 drivers...I can't find any for the 1010. Edit: lol timing. I think all the ones on the market currently should be OK for win7x64...the 1010 is already *old*

hp LaserJet P1102 - A4 upt 18ppm, 600 x 600 dpi with FastRes 1200, 2MB RAM, 150 sheet input, USB 2.0 host based printing

Use fastres with all your printing. Refill the cartridges or buy re-manufactured

I've owned 2 HP laser printers (HP 5L and now upgraded to Laserjet 1300). I've never had any problems with them. B&W cartridges are cheap considering how long they last.
