Department of Communications ICT round-table “refreshing”

It's probably safe to say these "Industry players" either were paid under the table by Telkom or they are simply suckers for love...I just don't see Telkom holding on to it's promises of LLU by Nov.2011 or creating more competition for Telkom in any way shape or form.

Not to mention Telkom is already in talks with the Government to extend some of their powers that end in March, I mean...that says it all.

You have it the wrong way around... Government is in talks with the JSE and Telkom Board as Government wants to cling onto it's control of Telkom via the Class A share that expires on 5 March 2011.

True, I meant to say it the other way around...but is it still not the SAME THING? The point being Government still wants a piece of the pie and thus will probably get it?
 
I have to ask, what are the chances of this Class A share aspect being extended beyond the 5th of March?

It would be incredibly beneficial for the country as a whole I think, for it not to be extended at all.

The Government is pushing VERY hard to retain control.

The JSE and those Telkom Board members NOT appointed by Governement are strongly opposing it.

Your thinking is 100% correct.
 
I just hope that the round table includes consumer groups pushing for more affordable services. The last thing we want is an corporate-friendly DoC protecting monopolies, cartels and industry-wide price collusion.

As for Government control of Telkom: Yes, drop it, but not before LLU. Telkom needs to be a mere shadow of its former monopolistic self before it can be left completely in private hands. A government controlled monopoly is bad enough, a privately controlled monopoly is a disaster waiting to happen.
 
Fu** Pieter Uys! For charging me R2.50 per minute to make a f"""in phone call during the day to my girlfriend who uses Vodacom.

Its funny corruption is only when government people are stealing. JSE listed companies like Vodacom have stolen more than the ANC cadres will ever take
