Would it be out of line to ask Cell C to make Steam usage unlimited? Imagine that! Please make my wish come true Cell C.

You have my vote on this.

Please CellC , do this for us.

hmm....what should we send to their headoffice....or wait the whoooooosh sound clip into their inbox :D

I doubt they will, bandwidth = revenue.
I actually considered asking to have speedtest.net 'unmonitored', as many of us constantly use it to find the optimum position for maximum performance, but also concluded that it is actually a hell of a revenue source for them, and they benefit from it big time.

If the Steam servers were to be located locally (Which they are), wont it be cheaper for Cell C to open traffic just to that local route? Ala WAGE style?

I'll ask an see what they say but almost definatly the answer is probably no. But there is no harm in trying :)

hehe, dont forget to mention that the traffic would be local only. They would earn some SERIOUS market share with gamers this way me thinks.

Remember, you can arrange with Valve to host your own server, delivering the data over your own network to your own clients, this service would effectively cost nothing considering its just data going over a LAN you own.

Just think 'first SA Mobile operator to host Steam / game server'

I doubt CELL C would allow it but if CELL C could make a structure or APN just for steam at a monthly cost of around R300 per month - i am sure gamers would pay as much as that just for steam :P

Imagine that first mobile operator - under strain due to too many gamers on their backhaul :P

Can you also ask them about a dedicated gaming APN as another user requested in another post. Would be really useful. Not asking for free bandwidth just priority on gaming ports for those of us who game.

Well it would be great ;) But like some said could put network under strain. But CellC should look into all areas of market ;)
Theyve surprised us already, maybe they not done yet

Why not just hope for uncapped? an affordable one that is not more than R400 a month hopefully... which will be shaped and more expensive unshapped.

Rather have capped gaming connection than an uncapped connecction. Just take a look at Mweb. Many users are unable to game on the connection on peak times.

The for now is no. They may revisit this at a later stage but it is not considered feasable for the meantime.

What's it like playing on Steam with Cell-C. Cell connections are notorious for high latency, so why would they venture into the gaming realm?
