EASSy submarine cable system upgraded to 4.72Tbps

Fat lot of good it does for us.
There is no sign of, or any evidence of EASSy ever having landed to the South African Consumer.
It's like they never existed.
 
I dont see any damn effect from this cable. its like 5 times the bandwith of Seacom but has 0 effect on our telecoms yet Seacom made a hugh diffrence to the SA internet space.
 
How can the design capacity be increased when the cable is already in the water?
 
EASSy has had 0 effect to us. It could be 1000TBps and it still wouldn't matter. Which ISP on which product uses EASSy?

The technology on the end of the fibre pairs can be upgraded and allow faster speeds. Exactly like 10 to 100 to 1000 Mbps using the same copper.
 
With cables they usually don't light up all the fibre 'strands' at start, so they increase existing capacity later by switching on more fibre. However, design capacity is the total amount of traffic the cable was designed for, so I assume to increade the design capacity they'll have to upgrade the comms equipment on either side to transmit at higher frequencies.

I also don't understand why EASSy is such a dead duck, except possibly that the bandwidth it delivers is controlled by a greedy narcissistic bunch.

Hey, look at this trend !
Does EASSy even exist? Or is it an spoof/phantom company for international investors? I don't see how anyone here has the capacity to KNOW the answer to that -- hows about some empirical proof that you even exist, EASSy?

Probably because SAFE goes to Asia and hence restoration on SAFE is not ideal due to higher latency on traffic destined for Europe.

Not sure how much capacity they have, the real question would be how much are they actually using.
