New WASPA management committee members named

The Wireless Application Service Providers' Association (WASPA) has announced the names of the members of its management committee for 2011 and the portfolios and working groups they will be responsible for.

Russel Stromin, an industry veteran with more than 20 years of experience in the technology industry and head of Strike Media, will chair the Code of Conduct Working Group.

I think it's hilarious that one of the spammers is actually heading the Code of Conduct Working Group. No wonder nothing is being done about SPAM from Strike Media. WASPA is a joke!

Yip - I got a fine issued to them for adult spam in 2009 for R150,000 they bitched and moaned like little girls and it was reduced.... according to the complaint my number was blocked on their systems.

Come January 2011 I was spammed by them again, I think it was also adult related - today I requested it be a formal complaint, it'll be interesting to see what happens.

This is the SMS I received which I'm assuming is theirs as its inline with their previous crap:

I believe if WASPA was not set up, the government would have regulated. It's designed to show they can do it themselves, but has turned into a farce.

Having read that complaint xrapidx posted (http://www.waspa.org.za/code/download/6542.pdf) its quite apparent that Teleplay was the company that used Strike Media's facilities to send the SPAM. I have trawled some of the other complaints on the WASPA web site and typically Strike Media seems to be quite a responsible operator.

I guess it must be really difficult for these WASPs to monitor all of the messages that go through their links with the networks when they may have many different individuals or companies using their systems - must be a real nightmare.

I just got a response from the second set of spam from them - they now claim they only blocked my number from Teleplay, and then went on with excuses about how I might want to receive spam from company A, but not company B... when in-fact that is just their assumption, I don't want spam from anyone. If I want something, I contact a company.

They also say they do a global block on numbers in the DMA - I registered on the DMA in 2007... so much for the 'block'.

They accept the responsibility to deliver, and derive an income from, a specific company, its not my problem if they don't check the messages.

Don't be fooled by this little ploy from Strike Media.

This is their normal defence - to blame another company when in fact the SPAM originated from and through them.
