ASUS Eee Pad transformer

I don't understand why they are not leading with a 3G unit? I am sitting on my hands until one arrives, other than that this look like just what I am after.

From what I understand its a decision ASUS made because of the US/Europe carriers. The carriers need to approve updates before it can be released for both the 3G and Wifi models when they stock 3G units. ASUS decided that they dont want to be hampered like other OEM's in regard to updates, thereby not releasing the 3G units in US/Europe.

You are welcome to import them from Asia where the carriers dont have the same restrictions, and yes I agree that its crap for a Service provider to block updates on WiFi units just because they sell 3G units of the same device.

For me this was a wise decision as we can see only 2 units in the world running the latest 3.2.1 The flagship Xoom(And even here not all models) and of course our ASUS Eee pads.

Then they should follow the *spits* Apple (who thought I would ever say that) model and sell straight to retail. When the networks want them then they can deal with the updates the way they always do for their units.

It becomes difficult to support Tabs when the real offering (3G) is so limited, Xoom too think and ugly, Samsung, too locked down (propriety port, no SD) are the only 3G units that come to mind.

For me the eeePAD 3g would be perfect, so where is it?

Still not sure if you want to get rid of your old ASUS and getting a prime?

Check this 2 tech demo's running off the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime

This prime is giving people nerdgazms all over the interwebs!

I must have one!!

Back to the old TF for a sec...

I've noticed that the Revolver custom ROM increases battery life by an absurd amount, left my TF on over night with wifi off and it went down 2%, definitely way better than before.

True, I have even seen Apple journo's drewling, which for me was a 1st.

Hope we can get one locally in SA before X-mas this year, including 3G

Anyone know or read anywhere when and who will be getting these in SA ?

Don't know if I should wait or still get the 16gig 3G TF 101

I'm not quite sure what romset is but for old school nintendo games I use SuperGNES and a wireless xbox controller.

I'm sure there quite a few other nintendo emulators though.

You can download the actual games all over the webs, I think I've been to http://coolrom.com/

You mean outside of Asia. There are 3G ASUS Eee pads, just not in the west. I believe you have to blame Service Providers for that one, just because they want a hand in the OS and updates when 3G models are available.

But why can't they just sell them retail, and let their customers put whatever SIM card they want to in the device?

Apple does this with the iPad, and it seems to work well for them. I don't get why everything with a 3G radio has to be sold through the cellular networks.
