Unfortunate news for anyone who saw HTC's Sense 3.0 UI and started dreaming about seeing it on their Desire HD, Incredible S or any other handset that doesn't ship with it preloaded. HTC has said that because of the hardware requirements of the fancier new Android skin, only the dual-core Sensation 4G and EVO 3D smartphones and the 1.5GHz Flyer tablet will be benefiting from it for now.

What I experienced with the HTC Hero, DHD now have to.
Pathetic.

The Desire HD is less than a year old, and already outdated. My heart goes out for those DHD owners now.
 
ag its alright. If your phone is rooted the devs will make a 3.0 custom rom

I'll probably have Sense 3.0 on my ancient, normal Desire soon after launch thanks to XDA. The people who don't care for rooting and running custom ROMs are unlikely to care about not having the latest interface.

Such is the price of progress.
 
My ancienter HD2 is great after an android 'upgrade'. XDA FTW

So it'll be a slightly lower res texture here and there... I still don't view it as an issue. Heck, I had my old TouchPro running ports from phones with twice the processing power. XDA have an incredible collective penchant and ability to tinker with stuff long after HTC have lost interest. They often do a better job, too. ;)
 
Looking at how my DHD can do everything the HTC Sensation can I am sure the manufacturers have to find some way of getting people to buy the new shiny. If they gave us Sense 3 very few people would even care about upgrading the normal Desires. It just the market working as its sepose to.

Agreed, the hackers are pretty resourceful/talent.
Will have to wait and see.
 
From Android Police:
I know that everyone loves leaks, so here is a good one for all of the devs out there, especially ones that are looking to port Sense 3.0 to devices that HTC says won’t get it (at least not all of it anyway). A test ROM for the HTC Sensation (yes, the one we just told you about on earlier this week) has publically leaked with all goodies, including Sense 3.0, intact.

So there you go Thunderbolt, Inspire, Desire, and all other HTC handset owners – hopefully the full blown Sense 3.0 interface will end up coming your way shortly.

Just googled your metaphor, and "glacial" can mean fast or slow...so don't know what you mean by this.

Anyway, if you mean performance is going to be fast, then your probably right, especially with Dual Core's.
If you mean performance is going to be bad, (especially regarding the battery) you're probably right too. My single core DHD barely gets a day of the battery. Me thinks everything except the battery is advancing in leaps and bounds.

You must have Hulked-out when 64-bit PCs started coming out, or when things switched from single- to dual- to quad-core (and goodness, what about the hex- and octa-cores). This is progress and mobile is even more susceptible to it than PCs. Are you peeved that you can't run Windows XP on your 286? How about Windows 7 on your Commodore? Maybe those aren't fair comparisons as the DHD is hardly a mobile 286, but the point is that you can't expect to run the latest and greatest on an aging machine.

You use the word "outdated" too liberally IMO. Does this mean that the DHD is no longer king of the HTC hill? Sure. Does it mean that it is now completely useless? No. It's not getting the new Sense update, big deal, but it's still getting an update to 2.3 and we'll see how things are go with the next version of Android. The DHD is still one fantastic piece of hardware, but it's going to have to scale down on the more intensive things (i.e. I can play Crysis on my old machine with a NVidia 7600GT, but I'm going to have to scale down the GFx to do so).

Haven't found anything that I must scale down on my Desire HD yet, but I agree with what you are saying. :)

Think the jump between single core and dual core CPU phones will fuel a new generation of games, apps & what can be done with/on a mobile phone.

BTW outdated doesn't mean useless....
I never stated the DHD as being useless.

With regards to my pc-use trends, I jumped straight oto the 64-bit bandwagon, with all of my 4GB-ram would allow me. Why?
Because my vocation required it.

Huh? Dual Cores use less power. But I think HTC has learnt from the DHD and added a bigger battery in future phones.

Very tough choice between the Evo 3D and Sensation.

Personally I would love to get the Evo 3D. ;)
 
Well it's a damn good thing I waited and never got the DHD 2 weekends ago :D
Been yearning to upgrade from my n97!! (depressing I know.. )

So trying to decide between the evo and Sensation as well... Think i'll just have to play around with them in store.. This 3D thing is cool but I dunno how it'll really improve my email/messaging/browsing experience on a phone...
Games yes, but other things? Meh Don't even have a 3D tv or screen..

Kaalneut, I am a 3D fanatic, so unfortunately no other choice for me. :(
