This is great news for guys that cant sync higher then one meg and the 512 guys but I wont drop my 4 meg for a 70 bucks saving at a fourth of my current speeds, what about the 384 surely they could bump that to 512 now considering its a marginal speed increase, would like to see whats gonna happen with the uncapped now

I wonder if they'll upgrade the wimax service as well

Man... I sat on 512 for years because this was the max our area supported.

Now I move to a new area with 4 meg and I upgrade ($$$) a month later they do this.... I only really need 1 meg but it seems insane to downgrade now.

If I stay on 4 meg there is a chance I could get 8 meg... *sigh*

So what do all the ISPs have to say about this? We gonna have to fork out loads of cash for 1 meg packages now?

did some research.... there are already ISPs offering uncapped ADSL at these speeds. http://www.hellkom.co.za/uncapped-adsl/
the table's prices are outdated, but mweb has it for R369 excl line rental. not sure, but it seems to be the cheapest isp.

1 meg uncapped with Mweb is R369, R70 more than 512k uncapped.
Forget hellkom... let's get our own table going here!

Very high pings today. They always seem to break more than they fix when upgrading stuff.

This opens a question what about those on 4 Meg, (who actually pay for 1 Meg) and can't sync at 4 Meg. Clearly Telkom has not thought this through as usual?

They can now downgrade and pay less. This actually works out better for them.

Then you just downgrade to 1 meg ?

Its a technical upgrade so in reality I doubt that absolutely everyone will be able to get 1 meg.

As far as I can see its onely happening just before midnight tonight, so it shouldnt cause trouble unless their running tests or something

To be honest ISPs should just upgrade their 512 packages to 1 meg. After all it is telkom that every body is waiting for to do line upgrades. 512 packages should fall away completely now. No reason to keep them.

So the 4 Meg pricing will now start from R326, instead of R413. then people who can sync at 2, 3 and 4 Meg will pay different prices?

No 4 meg will stay at the same price, 512k will be replaced by 1 meg. So those who can only sync at 1 meg, can downgrade to 1 meg and pay R326.

Wonder what effect this will have on their backend? Hope it doesnt cause a slow response all round.
Then again I dont think they have too many 512k customers which is probably why they're only upgrading 512 and not 384.
