Hi guys, it's almost end of the day and I did some tweaking today.

I run Windows 7, the same could be done in Windows Vista.

For the complete rundown, visit this page: http://www.speedguide.net/articles/windows-7-vista-2008-tweaks-2574

Please download this script for optimum settings as described above. Launch it by right clicking and run as Administrator.
http://www.quickshare.co.za/files/r353jwr9/SG_Vista_7_TcpIp_patch.cmd.html

Go to your CellC connection dashboard. Go to SETTINGS; OPTIONS; PROFILE MANAGEMENT. Create new, use default settings, but add these two DNS Servers: 168.210.2.2 (primary) 209.212.97.1 (secondary). Save and set as default.

Let me know if you run Windows 7 if your connection improves, mine definitely did.

Ciao,
tera

Thanks to memyselfandi for the CellC dashboard step by step.

What were your speeds immediately before making the changes?

My speeds before the changes were about 2 to 3 mbps. It has definitely improved since making the changes.

If you don't notice an improvement, you can always revert to default again (I know you know this though, I'm just mentioning for any takers).

Just tried this... and it works! :wtf:

Nice find! Thanks, Teraside! :D

Edit: Before making the above changes, I ran a speedtest, and got about 2Mbps down, and 1.5Mbps up. After...

No worries :) I'm glad it worked for you.

Actual throughput without tweaks.

I tried your tweak(s), and it resulted in decreased speeds for me. Don't know why ?

If I lived in a Cell C tower I'd get speeds better than this:

ahmed. Did you reboot your pc after making the changes? I forgot to mention it in the OP.

Will this work for Windows XP?

Unfortunately not. You need to edit your TCP/IP settings, MTU, Receive Win etc. manually in XP. There are many free programs available which allow you to do this, just Google for TCP/IP optimizers or something alone those lines.

So what you saying is that it CAN work for XP provided I get those optimizers you mentioned in your post.It won't work on the standard version for XP.

The commands aren't supported in XP and only in Vista and 7 as the networking is completely rewritten. You can optimize your TCP/IP settings with software for XP though.

This is how I've done it in easy steps:

Open command prompt. Type CMD in search bar, right click on CMD and choose – Run as administrator

Type the following commands:

netsh int tcp show global

netsh int tcp set global rss=disabled

netsh int tcp set global chimney=disabled

netsh int tcp set heuristics disabled

netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

netsh int tcp set global dca=enabled

netsh int tcp set global congestionprovider=ctcp

Go to regedit and change this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\
Tcp1323Opts=1

Go to your Cell C connection dashboard. Go to SETTINGS; OPTIONS; PROFILE MANAGEMENT. Create new, use default settings, but add these two DNS Servers: 168.210.2.2 (primary) 209.212.97.1 (secondary). Save and set as default.

REBOOT PC!!

After all this was done I got speeds over 5Mb/s! That is up from 1.5Mb/s.

Thanks terraside!

My pleasure memyselfandi ;)

I added the CMD script in the first post if you don't want to manually do the settings.

Will try this when I get home.
Not happy with the current speeds I am getting so hopefully this tweak helps.
