8ta's 21Mbps network is now live (20 June 2011)

Honestly, what is the point of these high speed mobile networks when data allocation(bandwidth) costs are horribly exorbitant.The supercar and petrol pittance allowance analogy comes to mind once again.((((shakes head))))
 
Bloody useless. 21mbs is useless when you have to sell your home just to to browse. Mobile operators with their fast connections is useless if you cant afford the cap.
 
Thing is , their network is under utilised, so they can offer the speeds, just wait until the numbers pick up and capacity becomes a problem, will be just like Vodacom
 
Maharaj said that they are focusing on the end user’s experience rather than peak network speeds

Pity they couldn't do that with the main telkom :sick: land line experience.

the thing with Telskum, they want to lock people into long term contracts for everything, they just dont get it, that the consumer wants the flexibility that month on month provides!!!!

Bring on a 10 gig package for R500 with a 1 years contract. Add midnight to early morning usage at 5:1 from my cap and then you will own the market.

Oops... never going to happen, it would cannibalize the ADSL market too much.
 
They must be using the equipment (21MB) cell C and vodacom are throwing out, as they are upgrading to 42MB. Telkom "Always one step behind".

Its all about average throughput not the peak speeds that really matters to the user. Cell C & Vodacom might be upgrading to 42MB with average speeds of less than what 8ta can offer on their 21MB as they are boasted by their all IP backhaul compared to 2MB backhaul from both Cell C and Vodacom.

Actually most of Vodacom and cell C's networks are fiber fed. I am willing to put my nuts on the line that the speed achieved by 8ta is due to their lack of users.
