Nokia N9 running MeeGo announced

This is honestly the most retarded thing IMO. Why release a phone with an OS that you've just ditched? Surely they could have delayed the release to integrate WP7 instead? Heck I mean the PR2.0 update for Symbian^3 has already been delayed by ~6 months.

Sexy phone! Nokia always made good handsets. Not too sure how many apps will be available for it though, can't imagine dev's are gonna buy into a dead OS.

Nokia my friend you always treated me well, too bad your previous CEO had to piss all over Android otherwise you would have been on top of the world.

Exactly.

If you don't intend on using any 3rd party software it looks nice. Personally I am joining the global craze in apps to make my smartphone really a smartphone and with this MeeGo will just not do, especially since everybody already killed it except Intel and they are probably considering it in the background.

Sorry Nokia, also believe you should have gone for the mainstream, you are just not the big guy in the newer evolving cellphone market anymore and can't dictate the terms.

That said, my wife will probably get a Nokia S40 phone for her next upgrade again, the battery life on the "dumb" phones just remain amazing...

I think they were contracted to produce at least one and were probably already quite far in developing it. It's good, IMO, more choice for consumers

Oh and apps are written in Qt which has been around a long time and already has a huge developer base.

If this OS is going to work, they have to find a way to entice 3rd party app developers

I've always been a Nokia fan but this is too little too late. I had the N900 which used Maemo and it was awesome, but with the quality of specs in the new android devices this N9 just does not match up.

Nokia has been left behind in pure innovation terms. I imagine this will appeal to the traditional Nokia fan.

Developers already exist as Qt is a well developed and supported language.
PLUS: Android Apps can be run on Meego without much hassle to developers!!!!!

Myriad Group AG today announced a Dalvik virtual machine claimed to let Android apps run on non-Android platforms. Myriad posted a video showing "Myriad Alien Dalvik" running Android apps on a Nokia N900, and said the software will be available for MeeGo later this year.

This phone is going to be interesting, 1GB of ram... No more bombing out like Symbian (I hope)
