What is the best HDD imaging software?

:confused:I am a Silver Surfer and need to make a complete copy of my HDD including programmes etc.
You feedback and suggestions about good or bad experiences will be welcomed.
I have a 1 Tb WD external drive at my disposal.

Clonezilla will work fine. Its free & works. Its got a very technical feel to it though. Alternatively something like Acronis TrueImage (I think thats the name) or Norton Ghost.

+1 for Acronis. Absolutely Number One disk imaging tool out there. Worth every cent. Have just upgraded to the latest version, called Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.
 
I was an Acronis fan for years. But like so much evolving software, the latest versions exhibit 'the Nero Effect': they have become utterly bloated and unwieldy. I was pleasantly surprised at the cleanness and simplicity of the freebie Macrium Reflect, which carries out all the basic functions most of us need without any fuss or unwanted features. Highly recommended!
 
i have always used Ghost, but these days im using ImageX (GimageX)
its fast, Very Easy and works 99% of the times

You're probably talking about the Home version. But I think they got the message and the latest Home 2011 is easy and skinny again. The corporate products are really outstanding, and very easy & powerful.

I have just tried the new Acronis True Image Home 2011... and indeed... as Arthur has said, it has slimmed down a LOT. The bloat is gone... and it is indeed very functional again without sucking all resources from your machine.

I am still using Macrium Free (its free, fast, and works)... considering a Macrium Pro purchase (for the incremental imaging etc)... but just thought I'd add that Acronis has indeed trimmed their product and it is now worth a second look.

Clonezilla backs up partitions or entire drives so whatever is on a partition or drive will be "backed up". It's not a backup tool but a imaging tool.
 
Here is a nice list of Hard drive cloning software,it even lists ones that are free.

If you have a Nero Suit on your PC (that came with a DVD Drive) it comes with a cloning program called Nero BackItUp. Very useful
 
I have been using terabyte http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/index.htm for ages and love it. One of its nice features is that you can mount a backup image as a drive in Windows and access all the files via explorer.

I use image for linux to backup and restore, so I do not really know how good the backup under Windows is, as far as file locking is concerned.
