Hi Guys

I am busy working and an XBMC addon for the supersport tv services. I have succesfully completed the live streaming integration of which a screenshot appears below. The great thing also, is that I managed to circumvent dstv's security setup so now anyone can watch the live content without the need to login! Next step is to do all the highlight content and then after that, move onto dstvondemand. I am not sure when it will be done but hopefully quite soon. Let me know what you think.

To install an addon from a ZIP file:
1: Download the ZIP file and save to a location accessible by XBMC.
2: Open XBMC and browse to System > Add-ons > Install from zip file.
3: Browse to the file you downloaded and select it.
4: Go to Videos > Add-Ons and select Supersport TV

will you distribute the plugin once done? I have a few peeps this side that'll enjoy this yes.

An update on the highlights side of things. Having some problems figuring out how to do the menus for the highlights, but getting there... I do intend to release it once it's done ;)

how xbmc, wasnt this a first gen xbox program? can it be run on a pc?
 
Woah, were have you been, XBMC is the best HTPC software ever.
 
Very nice! Please let us know if you need any BETA tests or even better, when you ready to "ship" it :)

Nice work Bounce. However I suggest you work on the authentication and make it a requirement to view the streams like the Supersport website does, before you release the plugin.

Here is why.

1. If you circumvent it, Multichoice may not sue you, but they will change how it works and break your addon over and over.
2. It is kind of illegal but I am not going to debate whether it is or not, everyone has their own opinion.
3. If you include the authentication, there is a bigger chance Multichoice will let the addon be at least.
4. Lastly but most importantly, I have seen other XBMC addons going the same route (bypassing authentication/payment mechanisms) and die some time after initial release. You are doing good work, do you really want it to be in vain?

I personally like using the streams from supersport on my XBMC pc, and will hate it if it disappears.

Best would be to have the authentication in the settings of the addon, kind of like the youtube plugin.
 
I totally agree with Tinuva on this one...

the Authentication aspect will be an important one.

Yes maybe keep a version of your pluging (for yourself) that bypasses the auth.. but the one you release into the wild should play nicely, then Multichoice will hopefully just leave it be.
 
That all sounds good except for one thing - all addons are release as python source. Any code enforcing username and password authentication can very easily be sidestepped by a user with even the most limited coding experience.

Secondly, I don't know how easily multichoice will be able to alter their infrastructure to break the code - really the only thing that they can do is alter the html and some URLs... bottom line is that once you have the stream's URL and and parameters, you are going to be able to stream it using XMBC (rtmpdump).

Having said all that, it will be trivial to add a username : password setting for the plugin and I guess I can do it to have a better chance of playing nice.
 
Yeah the idea is not to obfuscate code, its to make it so that general Joe using XBMC are not getting something free they should not.

The idea is to have yourself as the main developer on the right side of the law, same with your plugin and give it the best chance possible to survive anything bad coming its way.

If people want to bypass it, its their choice but don't make that choice for them :)
 
Hi All

OK, the addon is ready to go but WITHOUT any authentication yet. It may take a while to add in this part of the code, so for the time being I am not going to post it to the forums, but if you want to test it as it stands just pm me for the link.

Although I can't image why it wont be compatible with 10.1
