Hi all,

As some might remember, I was waiting for the 9900 Bold Touch but with the delays:cry: I have instead acquired a 9780. Okay, so now the question is, as the topic states, how long should I leave it on charge before I can start using it?

TIA

New li-ion batteries (as in the 9780) dont need an initial charge like the old ni-cd batteries. you can use ur bb from the box and charge it when necessary. I have also heard that it is no use to drain the new batteries, and the life of the battery can be improved leaving it on usb charge almost all day.

+1 to the above post. I never charged mine. Used till battery depleted. Nothing wrong. Also 9780.

Use up current charge and re-charge. The important thing with Li-Ion batteries is that the electrons must stay active ... never let it run down completely, and never overcharge (leave it on charge for too long after full). The days of 14h initial charges are over. Now we can dig-in and enjoy out of the box.

There are still so many uneducated consumers when it comes to batteries. If your grandmother tells you that you must charge a battery for 12 hours she is more than likely wrong just like the guy behind the cellphone counter. "google" a wonderful tool to help decipher myths!

That's what I did. Got my 9780 a few days now, and I used the charge that the battery came with, then ran the battery down, and did a full charge(100% battery charge) before taking it off again.....

One thing I would like to know from those in the know, is how long does the battery last under normal usage? 1 or 2day? More? Thing is that this is my first ever BB, and smartphone of this sort... I had a N97 before this, and it lasted 4 days on normal use... So what should I be expecting in terms of battery life....?

True, this "charge for 24 hours before use" story maybe applied to phones 8-9 years ago but nowadays you can literally open the box and start using it immediately.

What i do on my 9300 is leave it on 2G most of the time.If i need to download or browse the web i change it to 3G.
My battery lasts bet 4-5 days with average use.

That's below average use or you must be very lucky. I charge mine like everyday but I really make use of it.
I advise everyone to charge a new battery overnight, reasoning is that the factory just puts it all together so there should be an initial long charge.

Reminds me of back in the day, when a guy was talking on his phone outside a local cafe, you just knew what he was, a telkom technician.

I go about 2-3 days on a charge but I also, like Mr Smooth, keep mine permanently on 2G. When I switch to 3G battery lasts one day.
