10-year-old hacker presents at DefCon Kids 2011

I'm printing this out for my 9 year old daughter to read.

I was reading "10 year old hack bla bla bla, cnet contacter her" :eek: awesome

And yes gentlemen/some people pretending to be women on this forum.

A hack is anything you can do to exploit a vulnerability in a system to gain an advantage. Be it social engineering or brute forcing/exploiting old-outdated kernels. It counts.

Go read the original article, its referred to as an exploit there, which is more correct. Honestly I don't see the big deal in this though, there have been plenty of people finding exploits in everything, all the time...That's why things get patched...And don't give me 'She's 10', most kids these days know how to change the time on their cell phone.

I still don't think it's impressive at all when there are 10yr old kids out there that have mastered programming or obtained a MCP at that age.
Back in the early days of computers in primary school kids were being taught logo & basic.

Sorry but this is nothing but mediocre.

Even as a tiny logical exploit this is not even remotely newsworthy. At 10 several of my friends and I were already changing text files to give ourselves 999999 ammo in games, setting the PC clock back to to use shareware programs as much as we wanted and I knew my way around the BIOS at 7. Once again the media is applauding mediocrity. This kid is a n00b.

Agree. I typed my first few line of code in the early 80's when I was 6 or 7 (?) and when I was 9, got my first PC and started coding immediately. It was the norm back then. Kids these days think they need a medal just because they can switch the PC on.

I was taught Logo in primary and high school. By the end of it I had an entire ping pong game going on. I thought that was an epic achievement, which partly explains why I didn't go into computer programming...:D

I dont think i have played any games on my phone in quite some time. And I certainly dont care enough about them to go about cheating.
As has been mentioned before, this is pretty basic stuff she did. Changing date and times to fool games has been done since I had my XT. As was editing files back in the day to either be able to play a game (illegally) or edit attributes in a game to make it easier. Was I around that age? u bet ya
