Hi Hi

Short version of the story:
Family member has a VW Golf with a snapped clutch cable. It broke yesterday afternoon while fetching kids from school. AA was called and it took them 2 and a half hours to get to the car. It was too late to book it in so it was to be taken in the following morning (today). AA towed the car to Barons VW in Tokai and it has taken many phonecalls since 8AM this morning to get someone at Barons to even acknowledge receiving the car. Everyone there too busy to answer questions or even return calls, managers are busy with "customers" and thus cannot speak to her. Well, what is she then ?

Terrible service.

Not being in Cape Town very long, who can those in the know on MyBB recommend she take it to ?

Any assistance would be welcomed.

Thanks.

EDIT: Oh, and perhaps an idea of what replacing a snapped clutch cable should more or less cost ? Ballpark figure?

Take it to Mace - on the same road as Barons Tokai (295 Main Road), but around 200 meters closer to Muizenberg. I've been taking my car there for a while and have only had good service from them. Speak to Claude or Hammy - 021 701 4816/082 788 4531.

EDIT: It depends on how much the clutch cable costs. Is it a self-adjusting cable? Perhaps looking at around R 1500 including labour, but I'm no mechanic - it's a best-guess :)

Barons in Tokai are the ones that sold me the accident damaged VW Golf 4 - cracked back axle... saying it was never in an accident. Being my first car purchase, I believed them.

Even the radio was stuffed, took it back the next week for the radio and they refused to fix it saying I bought it like that.

UPDATE:

Well... the AA could not get anyone at Baron's to OK the delivery... from 8 until 9:30 when someone finally allowed it, even though it had been discussed with Barons the previous afternoon. The car was signed for at Baron's around 10AM... yet they only managed to get back to my SIL at 12:30 to say that the AA had dropped it off only 10 minutes earlier! Blerry Liars. When my SIL pointed this out to them, a manager would phone her back... she is still waiting.

Aaaanyway... her golf does not have a clutch cable, it has cylinder like things that needed replacing... R1600 later the mechanic phones to say that he has noticed the gear-box is very "sluggish" and is "slipping" and is "washy" and that she never noticed this because she drives the car daily... she refused the offer of Baron's mechanical gear-box repair assistance and fetched her car. There is nothing wrong with the "feel" of the gear-box, never was, it feels just right.

The total lack of communication from everyone there is completely unprofessional... from receptionist to management... happy to send clients on a run-around because someone could not be assed to actually take ownership of the enquiry. Barons=Fail. Will never see her custom again. Pfffffft.

Barrons are worse than useless, if you want proper help take it to a real VW shop, VW Claremont etc... but that said, you can get a clutch cable fixed anywhere, I wouldnt take it there unless specifically under warantee or something. They arent part of the official VW group, VAG.
