Hawks investigate Facebook picture

The Hawks are investigating a picture on Facebook in which a white man poses with a rifle over an apparently lifeless body of a black child, the Sunday Times reported on Sunday.

Anyone got a link of said pic? Wanna see what all the fuss is about...

The original article has a picture. http://www.timeslive.co.za/local/2011/08/28/wanted-facebook-racist. I predict things are not going to well for this guy. As far as I can see his Facebook page is already suspended. My predictions is that this was a joke by a racist with below average IQ. And he is going to be FFL.

If this was just a joke I am pretty sure that the punishment will be disproportional to the crime - but if we don't make an example there will be another 10 muppets next month with similar or worse pics.

If this is for real the guy better hope he has a fatal accident before hitting prison, because it is going to be very unpleasant on the inside.

The pic is probably staged. Theres no sign of blood but I can be wrong. In the end it still just f#$k3d up to take a picture like that.

The hawks should rather spend the little funds they have to investigate malema

This photo is obviously a fake. I can't believe how everybody is getting on their high horses about this stupid photograph. Personally I can't see how any laws have been broken here. The self-righteous reactions of all our various law enforcement officials makes them look stupid. 2 people fooling around in a photograph does not prove anything. How can you deduce that any abuse or anything illegal has happened just from a staged photograph?

I don't agree with the sentiment of the photograph, but I certainly don't want to live in a world where you can be arrested and criminally charged for something as silly as this. The police should get involved when an actual crime has been committed, not when a staged photograph is taken.

Can't seem to find the profile anymore...
Pic on Times Live had metadata removed... Wonder if original has any exif data... :erm:

The Hawks do realise that this profile could have been created any where in the world? Possibly in a country where their laws allow for actual freedom of expression, even if the sentiment is plain wrong.

However I do note that the Hawks were never that quick off the mark when Julius sings about killing white farmers, yet a staged photo has their attention in 24 hours.

From the Politicsweb article.

On Twitter on Sunday Hartley - now editor of the Sunday Times - defended the decision to publish this extremely racist image on the front page of his newspaper despite its being at least three years old, saying: "Our story is about an extremely racist image being published on Facebook now, in 2011. We must find the person who published this image."

The article goes on to say that the person in the photograph was interviewed by the police in 2007, so there appears to be very little justification for the publication of what is an extremely offensive image, especially in view of the atmosphere of racial intolerance in this country.

This is rabble rousing, pure and simple.

Que?

Malema can say what he wants about whites but they going all out on a photo...i wonder if the tables where turned if they would put so much effort into the investigation or would it be labeled as just another statistic, i of course do not agree to any such violence against anyone black or white but it seems in all of the 20+ years south africa has not changed.

My question is.... why hasn't facebook themselves removed the fake profile and pictures? It is obviously in contravention of their TOS and is clearly both a fake profile and racist content.
So why is it still viewable?
