I'm seriously thinking of getting the Sony BDP-S770 3D Blu-ray Disc Player (with Wi-Fi), because my PS3 cannot do full DTS HD Master Audio + video will be much better.

Anyone tried a Samsung 3D LED TV with a Sony 3D blu-ray player and happy with the results?

No expert on the topic but are you wanting the amp to do the decoding? Apparently the PS3 can decode the DTS-HD MA and send an LPCM stream to the amp. If that's not what you want then ignore me :)

My understanding is the PS3 is incapable of 3D 1080p video + lossless 5ch audio due to limitations on its HDMI 1.3a port (HDMI 1.4 required). As far video quality goes the PS3 has been pretty much the reference standard for Bluray video output, but there are better players these days, however this is generally from a speed of operation perspective.

The PS3 is still a great machine, but, like What Hifi magazine says, its sound barely scratches the surface when playing blu-rays & 3D blu-rays.

The Sony S770 looks like a great video & audio performer (also read great reviews about the latest Panasonic 3D blu-ray players) and wondering how it will work with a Samsung 3D LED TV.

My Yamaha receiver will be doing the sound and video.

You cant go wrong with a sammy, go for it.
You also get some nice deals on fhd 3d plasma sets, dont hesitate to have a look at those as well.

Roman, are you sure this device is still par for your 5 Series LCD ?

I'm no audiophile so yeah PS3 still works great for Blurays, upscaled DVDs, photo library/viewer, some media file playing and the odd game (tho use Xbox360 more).

Well PS3 doesnt really play high-end audio. It just takes the DD & DTS bitstreams and shoves them out the HDMI (or optical) port. As mentioned its limitations are related to its (low spec by today's standards) HDMI 1.3a port.

I own a Samsung 3D plasma and have ordered the Sony BDP-480 3D player. Will report back in a week or so.

Have Sony S570 great player, the best for last year according to what hi-fi and had a Samsung plasma 3D. Kak TV do your self a favor and if you want 3D LCD go and get Sony or Sharp. Read around, there are some very positive reviews on new Sharp 3Ds. BTW where are you getting S770 from, it is an old model and i haven't seen them in SA. I believe this year Panasonic has some very good models from what i red, even better then Sony.

...and had a Samsung plasma 3D. Kak TV...

Have to disagree. Just because you have a bright room and couldn't help judging it from 50cm (portraying plasma fuzz that all plasma's have up close), does not make it a kak TV.

Value for money, it cannot be beat.

Pray tell, how much does a 3D LCD/LED-LCD of similar size go for?

Another thing. If you have a decent budget, maximise it.

:o

Was hoping to get the S770 here in SA, but if its not available, I will go for something else & use my PS3 in the mean time.

I hear what you're saying about the Samsung plasmas & fully agree. Really want one of their 3D LED TVs, just look fantastic to me.

Did have a look at the Sony's and LG's, but just doesnt do it for me.

The PS3 does 3D Blu-ray just fine, I've had zero issues, and if your amp can decode DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD the PS3 will send the audio stream untouched as LPCM lossless to the amp.

Hi Kingrob, I don't know if S770 is available locally, i just haven't seen it in the shops. That's why i was curious. In any case it is Sony's 2010 line and i doubt you will be able to find here. If i was you i would look Panasonic 2011 line or maybe even Oppo direction if you got the money of course. Regarding the TV, why don't try Sharp, from what i red they seem to be the best 3D LEDs at the moment.
To PP, i'm not even going to start to argue with you man. And just for the record my lounge is not bright at all. I've got very thick curtains and blinds. And let's not forget that in the same lounge i had Pana for five years without even realizing that my lounge is "bright". Peace
