We should do the same at our universities.

Less of a 'row' and more of a riot will result.

cupcakes of conscience

Awesome :)

Clever.
Ironic that the Republicans are accused of rascism for highlighting a race-based fees criteria.
Some people want their cake and to eat it ........... Hahahahahahahahahaha
:D:D

I don't see anything wrong with this protest.

But students, and eventually administrators, decried the event as racist and insensitive.

What about those [white] students that will be discriminated against by the university isn't that racist and insensitive ?

We did do the same here. Back in 2007 or 2008 at TUKS, the FF+ students organisation had a cake sale, cupcakes were R5 for black students and R10 for whites. Was a pretty big success actually, they sold out by about 10:00.

They, and (strangely enough) the College Republicans have a point. Bringing race into any university admission context is retarded and shouldn't have a place in the supposedly new SA.

I remember the cake sale at Tuks by the FF+ students. I am sure if you search the forum you will also find a thread where we discussed it and the usual suspects on here also complained about it being racist.

I would have been pissed as well. I could only afford half the cupcakes than the others

:p

And then my ass would have been very happy :D

Oh, I'm sure they did. Just like they will about this one.

I just mentioned the TUKS one because Budza said we should do it over here.

Do not be silly we all know it is racist to imply any other race than "the white one" can be racist

Political Correctness gone all stupid again.
What happened to Free Speech?

Brilliant tactic. Reducing the cupcake prices for minorities so that they can buy more and then becoming more obese.

Brilliant arbitrage opportunity for some enterprising black student. Purchase the cakes at R5 and sell at R7 to white students, instant PROFIT.

Brilliant protest, a real clever way to drive their point home!

To a liberal no.

It's "positive discrimination". Which to a sane rational person is an oxymoron.

Escalona said she deplores the divisive tactics of the College Republicans.

When the left protests it's standing up for yourself when the GOP protests it's "divisive".

Dereck Zhou isn't even white. So I suppose that makes him a coconut.

"It's inflammatory on purpose to get a rise out of people, and it's disrespectful," she said.

Then they cry when they get the **** kicked out of them. It was a a clever simile to use but not with the second largest racism obsessed country.

Ah a tacit acknowledgement the left resort to violence to silence those they disagree with.....

Isn't he Asian? That's what I'd assume with a surname like that.

yes he is.

OMG an Asian, Latino and 2 women. They must be "sponsored'" by some white corporate goon to sell out like this the bastards....

Did they only sell cream cake ??
No blackforest or chocolate cake ??

Darnit, those bastids....

Interestingly other Asians called him a traitor for selling the cookies.

So minorities believe in classifying according to race when it suits them. But whites are not allowed too.....hmmm

at NMMU, you are allowed 3 strikes to do your Honours in Accounting ,else you need to redo your BCom degree.
oh yes, that cookie is just for previously disadvanteged people.
if you're a currently disadvantaged person, you only have 2 strikes.
