Good day all,

Is there any way to find the GSM number for an AT device?

We have installed AT compatible GSM modems installed all over SA and the installers lost control.

I've been using Gnokii with SMS to find numbers, but would rather do over GPRS to save cost.

Was thinking if one of the MTN *123# maybe contained the sender number.

Thank you,

Johan Els

*123*888#

One of the MTN engineers did a quick utility this morning to enable a USSD query to find the MSISDN.

Send the USSD string *123*888# and your MSISDN will be returned to the phone.

This is not charged for.

Detail:
There is no way to determine the MSISDN on the SIM on a GSM modem without initiating any network activity.

The reason for this is that the MSISDN only exists on the network, not on the mobile device itself.

The SIM has no reference to the MSISDN, it only contains the IMSI number, which is mapped to the MSISDN on the HLRs.

You can determine the IMSI number of the SIM by issuing the command “AT+CIMI”, but this will not be of much use to you, because only the network knows the relationship between IMSI and MSISDN.

To solve this problem, a new feature has been implemented on the *123# USSD menu.

When you dial *123*888#, your MSISDN will be returned in the USSD response message.

Assuming that your GSM modems support USSD (not all modems do), you will need to enable USSD message display by using the command “AT+CUSD=1”

Then issue the command “ATD*123*888#" and the response should appear as follows:
+CUSD: 2,"Yello! Your MSISDN is 2783xxxxxxx",0

Thank you

Thank you insider,

Having the cusd part, I could ask Google and found the following to work for me:

at+cusd=1,"*123*888#",15
+CUSD: 0,"Yello! Your MSISDN is 2783#######",0

Thanks.

Is there a USSD shortcut for own number retrieval?

Hi all,
I saw a post somewhere on this, but can't find it.

Is there a zero-rated USSD code on MTN that returns your own number?

How do I find out the number of a sim card?

I have more or less the same problem. Have my HSDPA modem from work, but its MTN. No idea what the cell nr is. It wont let me sent a sms and cant make a call from it, i suppose its blocked by my employer. They gave me a nr but its wrong. Any MTN reps on here?
