Hey,

The Telkom duoPlus 300WR is sorta crap. I have one and the webif and telnet access died every few hours.

I was sure this was some rebranded crap and found out its actually the;

Solwise SAR-605EW

This modem can be flashed with the RouterTech firmware, and it works. Only via the PCTool mode, not via the webif, still not that hard to do.

routertech-ar7wrd-1350A-pspboot-firmware-4ports-DATE.zip is the version you want

The routertech site says you cant have more than 1 PPPOE, but thats also crap, I have 2 PP**** and have it in bridge mode too.

Have fun.

Telkom DuoPlus firmware upgraded to RouterTech AR7WRD (TNETW1350A) v2.97

Thanks, mercenary.

The firmware upgraded was relatively painless and seems to have solved most of my issues with the Telkom PoS. May actually be a decent router now.

Two gotchas to be aware of:
  1. PCTool may crash after uploading the firmware to your device. Don't stress - in my case the upgrade succeeded.
  2. The RouterTech firmware defaults to UK ISP ADSL settings. Be sure the new WAN connection you create is setup for South Africa:
    • Protocol: PPPoE
    • VPI: 8
    • VCI: 35
    • Encapsulation: LLC
