Long time Facebook users not getting bored of the service

Had it since 2007. Been using it more and more lately and the experience is only getting better as managing my needs and preferences on FB becomes second nature.
Interestingly, I now also have much less "friends" than I used to.

It works much better having a few cool people post their own interesting online findings during the day than having to use RSS feeds etc.

Have to agree. Been lovin' FB TOO much since they introduced their Timeline and the new layout... kinda reminds me of the original layout.
I think you go through cycles with Facebook. As a newbie you add hundreds of apps, like everything and add random strangers as friends but it sorta ages and matures with you. I've ignored Farmville and other app requests for so long now that people just don't send them to me anymore and I've gone through two or three "friend" cullings. It's neat and clean now and I don't really waste time adding anything to my timeline if I don't think people will really enjoy it... I appreciate it when my friends do the same.
Also, phone apps like Instagram and Hipstamatic make sharing some really cool moments on Facebook a joy.
