Johannesburg - Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale prefers to use his own car on official trips, which is costing taxpayers thousands of rands a month, The Star reported on Tuesday.

The newspaper has reportedly seen a document from Mathale's office detailing how he cashed in on travel claims, despite having two state vehicles.

In September 2011, Mathale was paid R446 000, including his R75 000 monthly salary.

Mathale's office has bought two cars during the two years he has been premier. A BMW 750i worth R1m was purchased in April 2009, and a BMW X5 that cost the state R821 000 followed in June 2011.

According to The Star Mathale reportedly prefers using his own vehicle so he can claim travel expenses. His spokesperson Mashadi Mathosa defended Mathale's use of his personal cars.

"The ministerial handbook gives him the prerogative to use his private vehicle and claim," she was quoted as saying.

Limpopo faced a potential shortfall of R2bn at the end of the last financial year. Cabinet put the province under administration last year after it emerged that Limpopo was bankrupt and could not pay civil servants such as teachers and nurses.

Lovely.

Why does the state give them such a large car allowance in the first place.Give them a skedonk so they'll be forced to use state vehicles.

Unfekking believable...

The ministerial handbook allows it so therefore its ok..

Useless, greedy fekkers...

so basically he "spent" R371k on travelling in one month, despite earning R75k ... something's fishy methinks

Does this idiot realize the money he is spending belongs to the tax payers not him . i think the fool is to dumb to realize this

On the contrary, I think he realises this just fine. It an unlimited supply which he can help himself to as he pleases. You don't see those that voted for him complaining thus it must be ok, he deserves it in his position and it's something for the rest of the nation to aspire to.

What never ceases to amaze me is the drones that voted this thief in to office and the rest of the thieves in the government will do the same thing again next election :wtf:

They don't see it as thieving, they consider it a right. If in their eyes it was thieving then they would not vote for the person again and they would make some noise. That's what any reasonable person would be doing not so?

I want to claim travel expenses at the rate he does :)

I cannot fathom how that expense is justified.

they'll vote for him even after toyi-toying in the streets because of failed service delivery ... nuff said!

Wonderful :) I wish I could be more like this person. Show the people why they voted me in.

Mathale earns millions from rental deals

Source

Limpopo premier Cassel Mathale and chairman of the parliamentary finance committee, Thaba Mufamadi, are earning R40 million over eight years for renting one of their buildings to the Gauteng government.

It never stops.

Thanks to the freedom that the media has for exposing these scandals. It would have been unknown during those years.

The scums should go to jail for this. But they won't.
