Hello

I'm thinking of finally getting rid of iBubbles and moving to either 8ta HSDPA or a 4Mb Telkom line. There is an existing telephone line in the house, but we cancelled it and it's been inactive for about 5 years now.

How would I go about this? Should I phone Telkom and ask them to reactivate my landline and then install the ADSL as well? How long should this process take?

Just some info, I do not know what is still valid but when you do apply ask for a trial account, one of the promotions where you do not pay for the installation and/or line. When I applied it was different and the agent told me not to apply for ADSL but only for the Tel line and once the line was done and activated upgrade it to ADSL with self installation. I thus saved some bucks at the time.

But since there is already a landline installed in the house, (it's just inactive), I assume I should simply phone them and ask them to re-activate it? Or am I going to have to register as a new customer again? There is no need for any line installations whatsoever.

They WILL charge you an installation fee unless you stipulate that you want to "self-install".

Whether there is a line or not, they charge for a telephone installation fee when they give you a new number (It's Telkom). Therefore find out about the free line installation promotions first, then upgrade to whatever you want to afterwards. When it comes to the ADSL ask for the self install option. All that curtails is that you verify your own line and install your own private mode. Stay away from the 24month contracts if you can.

Right, so they'll charge for the actual phone line "installation"? And afterwards I should upgrade to an ADSL line and specify that I want to do a self-install?

Yep but look at the "Free Line" install promos first

See this but the offer already expired unless they extended it again.
