Cape Town - Black and coloured Grabouw residents guarded their schools against attack from either side following violent protests, the Cape Times reported on Tuesday.

Coloured Pineview residents and black Siteview residents clashed on Monday. Police had to form a human shield to prevent the groups from entering each other's territories.

A man was attacked by a group of about 15 people, who hit him with rocks and sticks and stabbed him in the shoulder. The group badly injured a second man.

This came after a rumour spread that “the blacks” wanted to burn down the nearby high school, attended mostly by coloured, the Cape Argus reported on Monday.

Fifteen people were arrested and released on a warning and will appear in the Grabouw Magistrate's Court soon on public violence charges.

Local resident Margaret le Roux told the newspaper: "A group of people [from] the coloured community have taken up a guarding position at the school to make sure the black people do not come damage it.

"In the black area there are groups of people standing on corners and there are people burning tyres."

Another resident, Monyaduwe Molefe, said blacks were retaliating because they were being attacked.

Always though of Grabouw as a peaceful mountain village...
 
this is very sad...seems like the racial thing is always bubbling under the surface..
 
Why the **** would you want to burn down another community's school if you are have problems with yours?
You end up with no schools in the end. What has happened to common sense?
More and more people thinking like Julius now?
 
Aaah. Grabouw is part of the Theewaterskloof municipality which is run by the ANC , explains everything
 
Bet the ancyl in the area is milking this for all it is worth.
 
If the supply of Grabouw wors is in any way impeded, there will be hell to pay.

Yep, and the fact that Siteview did not exist in 1994 won't matter a jot.
