Free satellite TV in Africa

Does anyone else notice the absurdity in buying a super thin LED tv and then having 6 LNB cables, 1 HDMI cable and 1 power cable going to the back? Kind of defeats the point of having a beautiful LED tv that u can hang like a picture frame...

Not at all... I got a flatscreen TV for many other reasons.

1: It's screen size
2: Its picture quality (HD)

I had a 72cm crt before

And yes it does look nicer because its flat but thats not going to stop me sticking cable in it !

If you have 6 LNB cables going into the back of your tv you're doing something wrong.

Not really newsworthy. Most of the major Japanese LCD TV manufacturers have at least one satellite-ready television set available locally.

this would be pretty cool, built in decoders cant wait.

i have seen a service that offers free satelite channels, for a once off fee. Cant remember where i seen it though.

This appears to be referring to the Ku-band on Astra 4A. The footprint for SA is quite strong, requiring only a 60cm dish.

Currently there are no FTA packages (bouquets) on this sat at this time.

I have a theory that SES or Samsung would be willing to be paid by Multichoice not to transmit on the SA beam. Makes me a conspiracy theorist it seems! That said, I'm assuming that any FTA bouquet would not be even as good as Top TV.

not sure as i heard from a friend, but apparently the Sony Bravia's do this already and can pick up a signal in SA already.

What signal though. I can't see any bouquets transmitted on the Africa beam at this time except these references:

12533 V 2200 ? STV 1 [NO_FEC]
DVB-S (QPSK) KU 1
1 Africa Rhymes
28.06.2009 - 07:49

12562 V 27500 3/4 Free2View
DVB-S (QPSK) KU 4904 1
1 Africa Rhymes
16.07.2009 - 17:31

12605 V 29950 3/4 GlobeCast
DVB-S (QPSK) KU 4906 4 13
9 Africa Casey

FTA was all the rage in 2008 / 2009. ICASA seems to have killed them all quite effectively.
They will probably ensure this never reaches SA also

The thread should've been titled 'Free satellite TV coming to Africa...except South Africa' cuz let's be honest, it'll never materialize here. We get NOTHING for free, not internet, not broadcast tv and mos def not satellite tv.

FTA TV and radio reception is still available in SA. Look on lyngsat.com and dishpointer.com. With a FTA receiver available from bidorbuy.co.za, http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/61479315 DIGITAL_RECEIVER_FTA_DECODER_for_BVN_with_FREE_CHANNELS_Free_shipment.html one can receive from
IS 10 satellite (Dstv) or from Astra4A (Top TV) satellite. And point your dish somewhere else and you are probably able to get even more channels for free, from other satellites.
@ Holler, Don't worry, Gov, our beloved BIG BROTHER or ICASA cannot stop everything.
