Instagram popular among Android users

I got it last night but honestly dont see what the fuss is about. There are similar apps on the android market. The hype around it sums up Apple users.....

Might be an idea to link to the app in future (save me the effort :p)

So Android users are evolving?

So Android now has 430 000 odd users who don't know how to use the play store. They should switch to Apple as it might better suit their "special" needs :P

Huh? The store hasn't changed - just the name...

I think the appeal of Instagram isn't so much the filter effects themselves, it's the way it's integrated with social networks so tightly.

I heard a lot about instagram - can somebody explain what/how it integrates with social networks and why i should use it (not trying to be facetious) but currently i take a pic, click the share button, and can choose to upload the pic to Facebook, Gmail, SMS App, Google+, Picasa, Twitter App or Whatsapp. From there each app does its own thing.

What does instagram do differently?

From what I understand Instagram is primarily it's own social network geared towards sharing images captured with a cellphone - up until now it's been limited to iPhones.

Ah okay. In which case, personally I wouldn't be interested - another social network is something I don't want to deal with. Twitter and FB are enough. Can't be bothered to now go add friends, and follow people etc on this network.

Yea, I thought exactly the same, and then I realised why... Sharing is native feature of Android, implemented by the OS itself, using intents which is one of the pillars of the OS, which is not the case on iOS. And that, is why I don't think most of us are that impressed with Instagram, cause we've effectively always had it...

Except now all of our pictures can be brown as well!

Downloaded it, was not impressed. Personally prefer Camera360, which can natively do more 'transforms' as well as share on at least the same platforms as Instagram.
Instagram is a definite candidate for an uninstall.

Personally I think its a very bad designed app to start with, well they left the navigation exactly the same as the backward iOS system.

  • To get to the menu options you have to Navigate to the last tab and press the 3 dots on the screen (Android has a dam Menu Button -- USE IT)
  • If you press the back button to get out you feel like you playing a 80's arcades game tapping like mad to finally get to the home screen. (No proper flow and back takes you through all the steps you followed since you opened the app, Flow charts people, use application steps this is not a browser where you want to visit the 300 pages since you started the app.)
  • I don't like pressing Home to exit as in iPhone style as this signals Android to keep it running in the background wasting my resources. (Android unlike the other crappy Mobile OS's actually multi task so if you press home it leaves the app open so if you want to kill it you need to either play the 80's arcade game mentioned above or use a task killer - Fix it)

Other than the bad design its an interesting idea and I can see its uses... its like a twitter with pics, instead of placing a 5 word message to friends you just take a pic and let then interpret what you wanted to "say"
