This guide now consists of a Upgrade part and Downgrade part.

Now I asked 1/2 weeks ago if anyone had manually flashed their Samsung Wave 2 (S8530) to Bada 2.0 and I got 0 response, so I decided to research a little and do it myself. I am on MTN and my Wave was not locked to anything.

I am providing this guide as is I will not be doing one for the Wave 1 (S8500) as I do not own one.
Please note that if you follow this guide it is at your own risk, failure to flash your phone should not damage it you will just need to try again or take it to your Provider to get flashed back. You may alternatively flash is back yourself.

I will be able to clarify on the steps however I will not be able to provide any decent technical support as I only did this myself this morning and followed a guide to do it.

The firmware I had/have now:

OLD: S8530XXJL1/S8530XFAJL1 (XFA) - Bada 1.2
NEW: S8530XXLA1/S8530OXALA1 (XEU) - Bada 2.0

Upgrade:

Step 1:
Make sure your Wave is not locked to any network (will say Off on everything). This can be done by typing in this code *#7465625#, if it's locked you can either try to unlock it or keep waiting till you can update your Wave via Kies. Otherwise you should stop reading this guide if it's locked as it does not explain how to unlock it.

Step 2:
Backup everything you want to keep via Kies!! Flashing your Samsung Wave will format the memory thus deleting your contacts, to-do, tasks ect. Contacts on your Sim should be fine, however I recommend you backup everything to be safe. Before I flashed my wave I removed my memory card also just to make sure.

Step 3:
Download the following:
1. Multiloader 5.65
2. The Firmware (S8530XXLA1/S8530OXALA1/XEU - United Kingdom / Ireland)

Step 4:
After downloading all the files you then need to extract them, I recommend you extract the firmware to your desktop in its own folder.

Step 5:
Open up Multiloader (Downloader V5.65) select the following settings:
-LSI
-Full Download

Step 6:
Down go the list and link up the files from the firmware, for the BOOT just select the BOOT folder. Don't worry about selecting the wrong file as the correct file is displayed when browsing the firmware folder. For FOTA select "bplib_S8530OpEuroCommon"

Step 7:
Now that you have selected all the files it's time to put your Wave 2 into Download mode. To do this you must switch off your Wave, wait until it's switched off then hold down the following buttons:
-Down volume key
-Unlock key
-Call reject key

Step 8:
Before connecting your Wave to your Pc I recommend you make sure Kies is completely closed down, you can make sure via the Task Manager (ctrl+shift+Esc) Select Processes and make sure Kies.exe is not listed, if it is click on it and click End Process.

Step 9:
Connect your Wave to your Pc via USB data cable, give it about 10seconds then on Multiloader (Downloader V5.65) select "Port Search" It should then pickup your Wave and say Ready - Wave 37 or something like that, as long as it says Ready then you are all good to go!

Step 10:
Make sure you have followed all the steps above and have not forgotten to backup your contacts ect with Kies!! If you have forgotten hold down the call reject button to restart your phone to do so!

Otherwise if you are good to go simply click the Download button on Multiloader (Downloader V5.65). The process should take about 10mins during this time do not disconnect the USB cable, have a Eskom power failure or get robbed. Once the new Bada logo and Multiloader say they have finished you may disconnect the USB cable.

So far everything I have tested is working correctly.

Hey, great guide, will do it now, just wanted to know, I know you said everything works, but does that include making calls and sending sms's, since I heard that downloading the Europe firmware will not allow allow regions to make calls etc

Just tested it now and it works, sms, call cellphone and call telephone.

What I have not been able to figure out though is why when someone calls me it gives the international +27 extension instead of their name. And I can't get my memory card to work, but it might be due to me dropping it when I took it out.

Oh ok, as long as the calling and that works I am happy, well, I just have to wait for the firmware to download and will set it up, can let you know if my memory card works if you want.

That would be fantastic thanks, found out the only way around the +27 thing is to edit all my contacts numbers to add +27 in front and remove the 0, owell at least it works now :D

Wow, after many hours, of failed downloads, waiting for Hotfile to let me download over and over again, I finally got it going, and my memory card is working fine, thank you so much for the tutorial, was very detailed

No problem, I figured out why my memory card wasn't working, I had to format it to FAT 32, also my contacts seem to be working now also. :)

hey i need help i used you're guide to update to 2.0 but i found it not worth it since there are some features like the music recognition not available any more and mainly because i just cant send sms's so i'm trying to downgrade back to 1.2 but it does not seem to work please help this is my main phone that my work contacts me from so please help.

Just wrote a quick tutorial to fix the csc issue as XFE(South Africa) is included in the bada2 europe firmware, use the following tutorial to fix the +27 issues and so on if you want the data and mms settings let me know and i'll add them, they are in the customer.xml file though :D

Download Link

Cheers hope this helps

Please note this does delete all your data so be warned

Old topic but thanx, it helped a lot!! I've been using an Android phone for a while now (much slower 800MHz CPU), but Bada 2.0 feels sluggish? Maybe I'll play with 1.2 again first before I use the 2.0, maybe it will feel faster again..

Thanx for a great guide with very good steps

How Do I download the bada 2.0 firmware?

How do I download the bada 2.0 firmware? It takes me to hotfile but doesn't download when I click download

Thanks NomNom, your guide was great, did the upgrade over the weekend, and I am already enjoying the new features, I also find the camera, which I use a lot outdoors for my work, to be far better now, it focus much better, and takes far better pictures in bad lighting than before. Chaton is ok-ish only have 2 friends so far on it, haha, not like my whatsapp days. If i send a email to someone via my contacts book, it sends it via a cellc domain, my current fix for this it to copy paste the address into the email client.

I see there is a java version of whatsapp, it installs, but does not connect to sever.

Thanks for taking the time, much appreciated.
