Yep, there was an article a couple of weeks ago that mentioned Tim Cook was planning to have a sit-down with Samsung... I'm pleased to see the results were positive. Have to say I like how Tim has been steering the company since he took over.
 
This is not sanity prevailing.
If Apple wanted the trial to begin in July, the Judge told them they would need to streamline the case as it would be "cruel and unusual punishment to a jury" to have to go through so many cases.
Apple wants the trial to begin as soon as possible, so it has streamlined the case
 
So? The judge knows these cases are ridiculous, hence his ruling makes it so that sanity has prevailed.

Looking at the Google/Oracle case, judges like to simplify their cases, and it also lets the jury be flooded with less irrelevant information. And a shorter case is cheaper for all. The parties will simply then pick their strongest cases and present those and let the weaker cases (or patents) go by uncontested.
