Twitter meetup ends in rape

A 13-year-old Pretoria teenager was raped, allegedly by a 45-year-old man she met on social networking site Twitter, according to a report on Thursday...

Kids vs Sexual Predators.

If kids are gonna be given access to the web and social media. Their parents should at least walk them through the pitfalls to try and avoid these kinds of scenarios.

Gone are the days of playing marbles in the road, 3 sticks and spinning tops.

Sjoe, glad the bastard was caught! I hope he enjoys prison as much as the parents enjoy the guilt they will carry for the rest of their lives.

Not laying blame but why are young kids so desperate to be in relationships these days?

I am sorry if I had kids, it would be Naziville when it came to all their online activity....normal drill of informing them of the dangers of online, and keeping a close eye on all their activities, way too many weirdos out there!

It took me until I was the age of, about 21, before I actually started even GOING into chatrooms. So drilled into me was the whole "there are predators in chatrooms", "don't give personal information away" that I didn't go there for years. I was even very iffy when Mxit came along.

Are kids being taught the same things, these days?

Reality shows.

Oh please. It's just hormones, not "reality shows". Pubescent kids have had hormonal desires since before we evolved past the Australopithecus stage, and older men pursuing newly-fertile young women goes back at least a few hundred thousand years longer than television or the Internet have even existed. Jesus. Think before you speak.

What percentage of teen rapes involve social networks anyway? Teens are raped every single day in SA, and probably less than 0.01% of these involve social networks ... it's fine and well to teach your children to be cautious, but there's no need to be hysterically paranoid.

Clearly she wasn't told not to meet strangers on the internet, parental supervision fail?

Hope he gets shivved in jail.

If movies/documentaries/discovery channel have taught me anything it's that prisoners/inmates are disgusted and will often attack/kill people who have harmed a child especially if it was rape, not sure if that applies here, wouldn't be surprised if he got a high five from other prisoners.
