Yahoo launches “Axis” web browser

Clever idea to integrate search that way, with no search result pages. I can definitely see that being useful.

...and so the trend continues.

Soon all of the 'big' websites will all have their own search engines, advertising platforms, social networks, email networks and web browsers.

Ctrl + C
Ctrl + V
Gamble...

hmmm I would like to see this in action before I make up my mind. If Im searching for a keyword and dozens of thumbnails pop up with their graphics and whatever, that isn't going to help.
If I am searching for a product though, this could be very useful but bandwidth intensive

I don't see the point at all. This is management (at Yahoo) trying to think. A list of web page previews instead of links?? Most of what one searches for is text related, trying to read text on a little version of a web page is nothing short of frustrating. They say they don't provide links that one clicks, but then they do provide previews that one clicks. So they're doing the same thing, just having a preview of the web page instead of a text excerpt. Google does it so much better. Sorry Yahoo - but this won't save you.

I agree. When I search for something in Google the links will give you a idea of what is inside...a preview thumbnail aint going to give me any usefull info that I need to decide if the result will contain the content I am looking for. Sorry Yahoo...but this aint gonna work I think.

I tried this browser on iPad, it's really slick and has some very useful and time-saving ideas in its UI. It's not gonna save Yahoo!, not by a long stretch. But it might point to the future of browser evolution, in terms of UI design.
