Hi Guys,

Was wondering on any suggestions to the best bang for buck gaming headsets out there? And where to get them?

I did read up on reviews of models I can get at local stores but R1600 for a proper set Logitech is a bit steep and the rest look cheap, and the recommended models all on the web I have no idea of where to get in SA.

I was looking at a R1000 bucks MAX.

Peace

Like the look of the ROCCAT. Where can I get them form though? I'm from CT and do not mind ordering from the net (locally).

Forgot to mention that I want a mic included with the headphones which the Razer Orca does not have. Had a look at them in the local chaos and it looks good, just require a mic boet.

Then yes the Roccat will be a better option for you since you need a mic :D
The Megalodon from Razer is pretty much the same as the Orca but quite pricey, R1500+ if I remember right.
Cant seem to find the Roccat on any of the sites that I usually shop on, Ill keep looking :)

Just becareful with the Roccats. I bought a pair and for me they were the most uncomfortable things i have ever worn. Not dissing them as they are great gaming headphones, but if you head doesn't suit it then be prepared for pain.

I've heard the ASUS ones are quite good.

maybe gooi a couple of reviews and see what they say.

Edit -- i can comment on IkonicIT , great shop. used them a couple of times

Roccat Kaves are not good. Bulky and heavy, hard rubber supports, your head will be left sore.

The Corsair Vengeance 1500 offers the best bang for buck in my opinion. Quite a bit under R1,000 too. http://www.corsair.com/pc-computer-...geance-1500-dolby-7-1-usb-gaming-headset.html

I would not buy in to the whole true 5/7.1 speaker configuration etc. 2 channel/speakers + sound card with Dolby surround presets is all you need. Corsair has a built in sound card (USB ones do) with these presets.

Much lighter and more comfortable than the Kaves. Comfort was almost as good as my old Sennheiser HD 595's which is the king of comfort.

The Roccat's have a screw bang in the middle of the headset that need to be propped up. Bit of a design flaw there, but really easy to fix. 1x arm sweatband over the center of the headset = problem solved.

I disagree that they are too heavy.

Disagree.

Corsair Vengeance 1500 - 381g
Roccat Kaves - >600g
(Sennheiser HD5xx <250g)

Too heavy and bulky. Didn't even notice the screw you're talking about. It's the padding that is not good, too solid and rubbery. And the plastic/rubbery/pleathery earcup finish is not good either. Can lead to sweating. Velour (breathable) is what you want, as with the Vengeance 1500 (and Sennies, etc).

I've tested Kaves and Vengeance 1500. Have you? :)

See the similarity? Corsair are clever.

But , if i'm paying R900 for headphones, i dont want to have to pop a screw up, use a sweatband to make it comfy, they must be comfy from the start.

Anyways, the corsairs are very nice as well

Edit -- Agree with PP above

HAHAHAHAHA!!

You guys are awesome, laughed my ass off for the posts. Plus they are all very much worth high fives all around. Thanks for all the replies, very informative.

After I applied my brain I decided on the Corsair's. They look awesome, comfy and apparently performance and build quality is very good. Already ordered and will be al mine by this Saturday. ;)

Have a great one guys.
Peace

I have the Asus Vulcans, would definitely recommend them.

That said, a friend got the Corsair set not to long ago. They really are very nice! Enjoy them!

I used to own a pair of Sennheiser HD205's which are in fact DJ headphones, I must say the sound quality was absolutely fantastic.
Then I replaced them with Corsairs' HS1A because I wanted a mic,it is a very good gaming headset, although they are stereo it doesnt make the headphones any much worse than 5.1 headphones.

If an enemy runs passed you from the left to the right (or in any direction) you will clearly hear it and MP3/FLAC are superb.

Got them from www.biosonline.co.za for R650 + R60 for shipping/delivery

Hi Guys,

Just reporting back.

Got the Corsair Vengeance 1500's (7.1) a couple o days back and they are awesome.
Comfy, supportive, quality build and flawless performance.

Happy and excited about borderland 2 5hour sessions coming up in the future.

Hope this thread helps a couple of guy looking for a quality headset.

Peace
