Robot Cheetah is as fast as it is frightening

Looks a bit retarded... I was expecting it to go the other way.
 
Yes, weird looking knees.

I am surprised they didn't base the legs on most quadrupeds: short back thigh, longer lower leg leading to ankle, then an elongated foot with just the pad on the ground.

I think it's to have more space, if the knees went inwards there would be a high chance of impacting the back knees.
Evolution is certainly not perfect, we can base the structure on quadropeds but we can still fine tune and make more drastic changes where as evolution is stuck with a base structure and has to work from there, like quadrupeds for example, evolution would not be able to diagnose a "design" flaw, go back and do it a better, different way.

For example, we will always have a blind spot, we can only learn and adapt to live with it.

Humans have the ability to design robots and think completely outside the box, where as we know animals were not designed or at least, not intelligently.

The robot might seem weird to us just because we're used to seeing a cheetah run a specific way that might not make sense for a robot or be extremely hard to replicate.

I think the lack of complex articulated spine and tail might be to blame for the odd design.
 
I would call that serious bot abuse. Being forced to run as fast as you can until your legs break ?!?!? Bots must unite against such evil before its too late !
 
I can totally see that thing hunting down the remnants of humanity in the not-so-distant future. It needs some red laser tracking beams out of the eyes also.
