Who pays only 60c per kWh? My bill is R1.21/kWh ex vat?

There is the price Eskom charges the Metros, and then the price the Metros charge you.
There is also a scale of usage, which if you use more than a certain level, you pay a higher rate.

Yup I know, I have to go through a reseller, so I don't have multilevel anymore, Just straight R1.21/kWh.
 
Seems I put in my solar geyser just in time. Now to switch my stove to gas, buy a ton of solar panels for light/freezer, then realize I have to move to a cheaper country.

yip my bill reads R1.22 per kw/h, and I am billed directly by Eishkom....

Someone does not know their own tariffs!

So in five years I will be paying R2.44 per kw/h!

I will defend some metro's on this one.

eThekwini for instance builds and maintains their own transmission network, Eskom has nothing to do with distributing power in the city. Therefore they buy from Eskom at x cost, and have to add operational costs on top of it.

OK, but how about the R430 per month I pay in service charges ON TOP of the >R1 per kwh I pay for actual usage?

Household electricity is in the region of R1.21/kWh.
Hence it's likely to increase to R2.42/kWh.

As a comparison the average cost of household electricity (what the consumer pays, not metro),
in the USA is $0.125c = R1.08 (R8.67=$1)
Average Residential in Wyoming USA is USD0.097178/kWh => ZAR0.84/kWh
That's the end user cost including network fees, connection fees, etc.
(A bit of googling will get you the details)

In 2011/2012, CoJ/CityPower payed 47.7c/kWh and charged end users R1.22kWh.

There was a time when ZA has the cheapest electricity, but that's not longer the case.

With the new rates, ZA will have the highest cost in the world - despite having an abundance of coal.
