It's 30 per cent smaller and 25 per cent lighter than its predecessor - making it a mere 20mm thick, or thin, depending on which way you look at it - and all models will come with built-in Wi-Fi as standard.

The flagship Black version is capable of 4K video capture at 15 frames per second, as well as 2.7K at 30fps and 1080p at 60fps which will be awesome for half speed playback glorious Full HD.

The Hero3 will benefit from a sharper lens, low light performance claimed to be twice that of its Hero2 predecessor, and has improved sound that is said to not only be better for "natural" audio, such as conversations, but also benefits from an improved algorithm to stifle wind noise at fast speeds.

The Hero3 Black will come with the Wi-Fi remote included as standard, which gives access to control of up to 50 GoPro Wi-Fi enabled cameras at up to 600 feet. Impressive stuff.

The Silver version is 1080p30 able and is a lot like the Hero2, albeit wrapped up in a Hero3 body.

The launch prices were detailed in American dollars: The GoPro Hero3 Black will retail for $399.99; the Silver for $299.99; and the White for $199.99.

If I didn't already own a hero 2 I would be all over this

I am looking forward to this. I decided I to sell my Sony Bloggie that I can get me one of these.

See on Amazon the Hero 2 prices have already dropped with a $100

I just want 720p at 120 frames. Impressive how they can fit that much power into such a small camera.

I love the GoPro - we got the HD Hero 2 - but we can spot GoPro footage anywhere. We try avoid using the GoPro at our production company as much as possible, as it makes out footage seem amateur...

In the beginning, clients were astounded by how we acquired certain shots - but now they say "oh, you used a gopro..."

If they did not know where it came from would they still turn their noses up?

I'm loving my gopro v1.

It seems they've done away with the standard oval lens cover and the hero3 now comes standard with a mini dive housing casing. The normal skeleton housing is pretty crappy underwater.

Perhaps try narrow your fov and use the new protune setting...

Doobysoo, from your experience, how long do you think the GoPro 3 will last running on 720p 120 frames? I did get a battery bacpack extender thingy.

I use it for surfing so I usually keep it on the whole session and just record when I take off on a wave. If I do that I get about 2-3 hrs use. If I record the whole time its about an hour... I use the standard battery though.

One important thing... which no one mentions is that the waterproof housing mists up on the lens, it is vital to buy the GoPro anti-fog strips... if you're using it in water or where there are water droplets flying around then lick your lens every 10 minutes, I've tried everything and this is the only method of getting rid of droplets on your video... work's like a bomb too.

I wonder if I can just go down to outdoor warehouse and pick up the anti-fog strips for the gopro 2 and use it for the 3? Misting up shouldnt be too bad from the rocks, but I think when I go out on the kayak it may be a different story.

Thanks for the heads up,

They are pretty widely available and they're just strips so they will fit any gopro. I always put them in when I use the waterproof housing.

Tried using the anti fog stuff divers use on goggles? Licking the lens sounds like a pain.

The new GoPro 3 housing doesn't have the same dome shape where the previous one had fog building up. It has a much bigger "dive housing" lense on the housing itself, so fogging shouldn't be an issue anymore.

My gopro1 lasted for roughly 2 dive sessions of 50mins each on full recording mode. The battery back looks awkward and can be quite expensive. I prefer just carrying a spare battery.

I've preordered my GoPro, and am keen to do some time lapses with it. Although the hero2 does not have exposure lock, I have heard the the Hero3 has colour lock.

Will something like this be able to be added via a firmware update at a later stage or will they only include this feature on a future model?

I found the perfect method of avoiding fog...
1) fully charge the GoPro
2) Pre-heat oven to 100 C
3) put gopro and case open into the fridge and at the same time put antifog strips into the oven.
4) after 10 minutes take the strips out and put them into the gopro housing
5) close the gopro housing
6) remove from fridge.

Sounds like a shlep but it guarantees no fog... and lick your lens while filming, it is the only thing that gets rid of droplets..

No idea about exposure lock, I've taken a few timelapses and they've all turned out pretty good.

Thanks Doobyscoo, will defo give it a bash.

Must say time is crawling, they only shipping the hero3's on the 14th :(
