Windows 8 Pro upgrade for R299 now available online!

noob question, for the upgrade installation, it does allow you to format your hard drive... but do you need to have a pre-existing windows installed for this ?
what if I just want to use my previous windows keys, and just do a clean format and install with the upgrade?

I think your previous Windows must be installed as this upgrade is done through an assistant even if doing a clean install.

I was just busy reading about this issue. Seems like if you start the upgrade process within Windows you do not get to select a different partition, you need to boot from the installation media and select custom install.
 
Confusing, takes me to a site where the price is $39.99???????? So this deal is not local?
 
can you upgrade to windows 8 pro from windows 7 home premium? or do you have to go pro to pro?

Also, if you then were to replace your laptop, could you use that windows 8 pro license to upgrade another win 7? (I'n not referring to using the same key on two pc's simultaneously, ie removing the one and using it on another)..

You can download an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for your PC running Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (SP3) for an estimated retail price (ERP) of R 299.
Promotion details

The promotional price is limited to one upgrade per PC and a maximum limit of five upgrade licenses per customer.

This promotion is available beginning on October 26, 2012 and runs until January 31, 2013, inclusive.
Upgrade software

Each upgrade license applies to only one PC and you can install the upgrade only on PCs that have a valid base license and one of the following operating systems: Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP (SP3). Which version of Windows am I running?

So I still have a old extra paid for Win xp pro key somewhere. Wonder if ill be able to use that to upgrade...

Or a separate dive a presume? Will you be able to wipe the partition/drive afterwards?
 
so what happens to the win7 license when upgrading to win8. Does it fall away and not usable anymore?
