Okay, for the guys who dont like it. We get it. You guys are letting us know about 10000 times in every thread in every possible way. We get it. You dont like it. With all the people complaining how the tiles are eating their first born and such I was wondering how many of us has a successful upgrade.

I want to know who of those did the upgrade to Win 8 Pro and are happy with the upgrade. I am sure there are at least 3 of us. Personally I have no problem with my upgrade. My gaming computer is faster. I like not having a start button, and while I am not sold on Metro tiles yet I am pretty happy.

Anyone else have a successful upgrade?

Well I did a fresh install about a month ago and it's been brilliant!

Hi, i have upgraded :) i was one of people telling other people to stay far away from windows 8 seeing as i tested on developer and consumer previews and didnt like it at all. But i now upgraded and i am shocked to say im enjoy it so far.

Few little issues i have here and there but nothing that going to kill me, just me being lazy :) lol. i think also metro tiles layout in a way nice, like with start menu had too look for it i now just set everything only want on start screen and it is quick i know exactly where it is. lots of apps still need to be updated i think to be used fully with whole app screen thing. but in month or two i think going to be much better :)

overall: good experience so far. less is more - ftw

Did upgrade Friday night. Everything was exactly as i left it on Windows 7 and its running like a charm. Only real gripe i have currently is with my 2 screen setup its a mission to get the charm bar to show on the left screen. But i just started to use Windows Button + C so its all good.

For R350 odd its well worth it. The tiles are brilliant if you actually use them. Got to get myself a touch screen.

I'm upgrading tonight. I have my flash drive and I'm ready to roll :p

I upgraded last night, was seamless, all my windows 7 programs were still installed and functional but with a slicker UI. Thumbs up from me.

I have to admit, I played with Windows 8 while it was still in development. I hated it.

When I saw I could upgrade to Windows 8 at only R130, I started doing some research into new software and apps. I upgraded yesterday to Win 8 Pro. I bought only one piece of software that would make Windows 8 almost the same as Windows 7. It works perfectly! When I start Windows 8 up I do not end up at Metro, but rather my old desktop, plus I have a Start button!

I also run Office 2013 Pro Plus and I am waiting for my Media Center key.

I am now happy with Windows 8, very fast and working great for me!

This is what my Windows 8 looks like when booting up:

I did a clean install last night. So far so good. /bit of a painful learning curve but Ill get there.

Been using Win 8 Pro for a while (msdn volume license) and finally did a upgrade this weekend on my machine at home.

Love every single bit of it, the metro/modern ui, doesn't effect my productivity and very rarely gets in the way (if it does at all anyway).

the people who don't like it, can't handle change. :)

I've been having it!
I've been loving it!
Can't wait for the tablets to come out!

PLEASE TAKE MY MONEY MICROSOFT I BEEEEEG YOU TAKE ME NOW! TAKE IT ALL

I'm pretty happy. I definitely didn't see a performance increase since W7 was already perfectly smooth (in fact it was a bit slower until I disabled real-time scanning on Windows Defender), but the improvements to the task manager and file copying system are pretty good. I used the Start menu mostly for search, which I can still do with Windows+Q so not that much of an issue. It's basically Windows 7 with some stupid tiles which you can totally ignore. Haven't found anything that doesn't work yet, and my sound drivers work better than in 7 Ultimate.

Definitely a bargain at the price I paid for it.

Will be installing mine tonight, can't wait :) All the info i gathered here today i hope it all goes slick with the installation.

P.S For me i don't mind the metro look, looks decent, i have never been one for desktop icons, so this might just be the one for me.

+1!

For a price of R130 it is amazing.

The compatibility program did show that some of my software would not be compatible. I did a clean install and then simply re-installed all my old software. Everything is working perfectly, no errors with any of them.

My bootup, however, is not 8 seconds like some people say. I have password protected my logon, but booting up takes around 30 seconds - the same as with Windows 7.

I think they count the time from when Windows starts loading as "boot up time", not the time from when you press the power button, which is your actual boot up time.

Done - upgrade took about an hour, no problems.

Got my Media Centre key, installed.

Must admit to being a bit underwhelmed - unless I'm missing something ( or a lot ) once you take away the new tile facade, underneath it's pretty much Windows 7 ?

Had two issues. One major - consent.exe kept on crashing, and Media Center also crashed until I removed some codec packs.
It took me while to realise - deep down - Metro is just a full screen start menu with lots of bells. Admit it guys, you even click in the same location to call it up or use the Windows key. Metro - meh - I'll like it on a Tablet.

Under that is a leaner meaner Windows 7 that is actually quite impressive. Task-manager is perfect. The right-hand function bar is nice, the multi windows on the left is great. The task bar duplicating if you extend over two screens is a bit irritating.

Upgraded a 5 year old Lenovo lappy that had a badly degraded Vista installation. Did a clean install that took 30 minutes from start to fininsh and i't flying now! Had no issues with any drivers and could even install Office 2003. Boot-up time seems about 10 times faster than Vista was.

Been using the Enterprise trial for a month now and Dell laptop is running much more efficiently. Next step is a SSD + Windows 8 pro :D

Yes, that's it! Very well put, I think. I hardly interact with the Modern UI, just use it for Xbox music and searching.

Well i've been running it for months so i can't say i felt overly excited about the actual feature changes. Most of the novelty came from only paying R130 for it - gotta love that.

Its basically a lighter tweaked version of windows 7 with a tablet interface bolted on, which would be a hard sell if i had to pay R1000 for it. I'm excited about where this is all going, knowing full well that this is only the first step in a fairly important revolution in computing, but for now its all kind of underwhelming really, unless of course you are running it on a tablet.

For now it's business as usual, spending 99% of my time on the desktop with the occasional hopeful jaunt into metroland hoping to discover that magical app which will make me want to spend a prolonged period away from the desktop. When that app arrives Windows 8 will be a killer upgrade, but until then it'll remain just a faster version of windows 7.
