This may be a glitch in their pricing, so may not stay at R143.69 for long. Clicking on "Back Order" take you to the home page with nothing added to cart. However if you copy the Stock No and paste it on the quick order page the order get added at above price plus vat. Unfortunately I don't have any use for more PI, but thought I'd mention it here. Who knows, someone just may get lucky and receive their PI at half the price before the year 2015.

Its R299.99 now excl VAT

Ordered! :D

Not because I want another pi; I find them boring and underpowered as a PC, and complicated and limited as an Arduino replacement. I ordered one to make my R 15,73 order for a packet of fuses seem less insulting.:o This way I get to be all indignant when RS calls to tell me about the pricing error. It's genius really.

Just waiting for funds to reflect on VCPay and then I can complete the purchase :)

Update:

Cool, total is R 163.81 :) :) :) ... love using VCpay for online purchases when there are bargins. Always feel better putting a cap on the cc just in case they decide to do a correction.

Since I'm busy with exams and family commitments, I do not mind waiting till next year

You can buy mine :D
Bought it and..... no time to play with it :o

My problem is I've got a box of toys to still play with including an NXT which has been used once in the 4yrs :( ... so its an impulse buy

Story of my life. I received one of the earlier Pi units and I haven't even had time to power the thing up - too many other toys to play with.

Yup, that's true, I've already got one! Used it twice, but I was thinking for when I move out, but that will only happening in a year or two.... So that's a long time for tech to progress....

That being said if anyone one above wants to sell me one at a slightly discounted price I want one for my girlfriend!

Yip, new toys only stay new for a short while then join the pile of unused toys! Fact is there is only so much time in a day and if you are old and lazy then yeah time for playing with toys become scarce especially adding gaming in the mix.

I still need to swap the fan on my micro server, need to finish up the design for my custom htpc chassis so I can have the parts made which will also require me to learn CAD, need to set up the new IR receiver for my htpc and harmony remote, configure the remote to control my new home theater setup... And that's just the stuff in my living room. :(

Yeah, that's what happened to me... or well I saw the potential, but potential requires time and effort to create a return.

Has any one used a PI to set up a media center? was it easy and how much did it end up costing once you've factored in all the accessories?

Order placed! I'm hoping / assuming these will be the slightly upgraded 512MB version.

It's not hard hey.

Requirements: Pi + power (micro usb cellphone charger) + hdmi cable + sd card (8GB -> R150) + external storage (whatever you want to use).
Then simply install Raspberry XBMC or a Linux distro of your choice and setup according to your needs.

I borrowed a friend of mines to try out for this purpose and found the setup pretty easy. The Pi was a touch laggy, but at R163 (VAT incl) it's a good starter. Might upgrade to a HP Microserver or something at a later stage. Also hoping the 512MB version will perform a touch better.

Yeah it's by no means fast, but use it for 1080p media and it works perfectly well.
