COSATU calls for civil disobedience over e-tolls

While I support the idea (in principle) of civil disobedience, in practice I foresee a whole lot of vehicles being damaged by out of control COSATU members throwing bricks and petrol bombs and burning tyres, I think I will take the Gautrain to/from work on the 30th.

I can't wait for the e-tolling to be rolled out so that I can take delight in the chaos that ensues and listen to threats from SANRAL and DOT about defaulters.
I'm tired of waiting for the entertainment to start.

“A maximum of 130 persons can be accommodated per venue. Cosatu urges people to get there early and make sure they don’t miss the chance to tell government and Sanral NO to e-tolls,” said Cosatu spokesman Patrick Craven.
So as mentioned in the other thread, they conveniently chose these smaller venues to limit the impact it has on them.

same here!! Let the games begin!

I won't be paying a cent for etolling.

You will if this strike goes forth. Think of all the damage to the motor vehicles and loss to business. Cosatu just gonna make things worse, not better. What people should be doing is not try to get rid of the current system, but trying to stop all future e-tolling systems where it's not financially viable. And try to massively reduce the current cap to below R200. Should use the current public meetings to do that.

But again mob mentality is gonna take over, and everything is gonna end up worse then it was before.

A cap of R200 won't help as they'll increase it every year.

I won't be directly paying for e-tolls but I will drive on the highways. They can try to stop me.

If we have learnt anything over the past few months it is that the only thing that gets any reaction from the govt is violence or threats of violence.

Sanral and its cronies are smugly looking down on us and treating us like children who will just do as told. This arrogance is going to be their downfall and I could care less if the lot of them go to the wall.

nah, this Govt. only understands the language of destruction - they have to lose this battle and it will be by public disobedience - sweeteners won't make this corrupt project acceptable
