Am almost complete setting up a wordpress installation. This is the first time I've gone with Mweb and figure this is probably the final hurdle. A lady in technical support suggested I use this:

/** MySQL hostname */
define('DB_HOST', 'cpanel2.mweb.co.za');

but that just shoots out the following error:

Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at cpanel2.mweb.co.za. This could mean your host's database server is down.

Waiting on webhosting support to get back to me but thought I would post here in the meantime in case any1 knows.

Woah, quick on the draw there dude. Tried that, doesn't work unfortunately.

Are you using the cPanel hosting controller? Or do they have they have their mysql server on a separate server?. Im guessing they must have made a separate mysql server which is strange. When you asked them to create the database and create the database user did they not give you any details?

Yeah using cPanel. I created the database and added a user in cPanel. I also imported the tables from my local installation since I have a bunch of stuff I want to take from there. Not sure if this has anything to do with the issue perhaps? I just ordered the package this morning so really haven't received any word from them re. server details or anything like that.

Thanks for your help!

What about if you make the hostname "localhost" ?

Mweb uses dedicated SQL servers, so that would be a no.

@Tachyon, check in cpanel under your MySQL databases if an address is listed there. My hosting at Mweb didn't have CPanel (it had the old Mweb login) and showed the addresses for the MySQL db's under the databases page.

Hey froot,

yeah I have MySQL databases and phpMyAdmin open but no luck. Only information available is database and user names. Guess I will probably just have to be patient and wait on support this time hehe

Went hunting, and found the old thread where I helped someone else with a similar issue.
I will quote from here:

Hi,
I don't know if you are sorted, but i found my DB name to be case sensitive ie. CLDBHOST_M864112x instead of small letters ^

Hope it helps :)

You would have also received an email stating the host name .. you can check this via the MWEB hosting CPanel

Hey Anthro,

yeah I came across that thread but that still doesn't work for me I'm afraid. If I capitalise the DB name then install gets stuck at DB connection so its definitely not that. I double checked my password and username and that's all a go. If I set MySQL hostname to 'localhost' then I'm re-directed to 'localhost:888/etc' so I'm pretty sure I need mweb's MySQL DB server address (as froot mentioned). I'm no pro at this but that's just what I'm seeing from where I'm sitting.

Thanks for the tip tho.

I will do a test install on one of my sites for you just to double check... inbox me later tonight if you want and I can chat to you via Skype / Teamviewer to see if we can fix it (That is,, if MWEB support doesn't sort you out .. )

Hi Tachyon

Please can you PM me the MWEB email address or username so that I can follow up on this from our side.

Hey thanks man, I may just have to take you up on this. I asked for a tel number to hosting support and the lady told me they only have an email address ([email protected]) which seems a little silly to me..

Ok I've managed to fix this. It seems you cannot import ALL tables from an existing wordpress installation as some tables contain address resolution information (if thats the correct terminology).

So I did a clean install with 'localhost' and then imported only the tables I thought were necessary: posts and gallery information and that did the trick. Thanks to all for the assistance!

Glad you where sorted buddy !!
