Hi Guys,

Would like some advise/ experience with ultrabooks, and best bang for your buck so to speak.

I need a light portable laptop (ultrabook) to take to class (doing Masters) and take notes, quick to boot, work from anywhere.

Requirement:
14" or less in size
less than 2kg (less than 1.5 is great but $$)
Cost effective (under R10 000)
long battery life (6 hours)
good typing keyboard
Lan cable (45J) ** not that many have them esp the 'air' look alikes

Optional extra:
decreete graphics card - though only probably makes sense if you get a sammy or HP sleekbook or something with a bit more powerful processor than i5 3317u - but then battery life suffers and and might be a 15" and heavy.

What i was looking at: (all have i5 3317u)
HP envy 4 (laptop direct for R7800) - seems quite a good deal for price (has 32GB SSD + 500GB) 1.8kg
Lenvo U310 (laptop direct for R7500) - no SSD - 1.7kg
Samsung 530 (laptop direct for R10000) - with discreet graphics (has 24GB SSD + 1TB) 1.8kg

I do have an old laptop - and not a huge fan of incredible corruption, but normally they allow you to trade in old one and get a discount in Feb (prob around R1500)

Any advise and options - especially considering my requirements would be most welcome.

Thanks guys!

2 weeks or so back I picked up a Dell XPS 14 which meets all your requirements.

i7 Ivybridge (Gen 3)
8GB RAM
Intel AND nVidia gfx
14"
Back lit keyboard
Up to 10 hours battery, but I work it too hard to actually see that. Most I have gotten so far is 6 or so hours.
32GB/500GB SSD/HDD Hybrid
2 x USB 3
Ethernet and wifi

R8,500

Got it on BidOrBuy. Brand spanking new.

So far it has handled all the games I have thrown at it with no problems.

I suggest a DELL Latitude, you will get the satisfaction you need and it is cost effective too.
