Anyone done this? Can you please explain how.

Hi marco,

Yes, I have done this a lot. You have a 9300 right?

I always follow this guide from the crackberry website with my own modifications. It looks complicated, but it isn't. I have had no issues yet:

ELITE1's OS UPGRADE GUIDE
1) Uninstall any previous Blackberry Operating System (OS) from your PC. (Go to Add or Remove programs on your computer, it will be called Blackberry Device software vx.x.x for the Blackberry xxxx Smartphone)
Make sure you have the latest version of the Blackberry Desktop Software (7.1.0.37)

2) Download your new BB OS to PC. Download the latest os for 9300 here (ignore the austria bit, that doesn't matter): http://forums.crackberry.com/blackb...s-6-0-749-curve-9300-t-mobile-austria-760907/

3) Following successful download, run OS file to install this OS on PC. (this only "extracts" the OS files to your computer)

4)On BB, go to BBM Options, scroll down to Backup section. Ensure Remote Backup is enabled AND also conduct a Local Backup to media card.

5) Connect BB to PC. Open the Blackberry Desktop Software and backup device. Close Desktop Software.

6) On PC, delete Vendor.xml file:
use this program (http://forums.crackberry.com/hybrid-os-f224/vendor-xml-remover-v1-0-a-678515/) to remove all the vendor files for you. (This is where the austria bit doesn't matter anymore).

OR

manually delete the vendor.xml files located here: (I do not recommend this, as the vendors sometimes place the files in other locations than expected and then you won't get the update to work)
(If manually deleting Vendor, always hold down SHIFT and press DELETE to permanently delete.)
•64-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader
•32-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader

7) Disconnect the internet from you computer, this will force the program to look for a local installation.

8) Run the Blackberry Desktop Software again. The update should pop-up as a "local installation". Follow the onscreen instructions.

9) After loading OS, perform several physical battery pulls over first 1-2 days for OS to "settle in." Perform first battery pull very soon after OS is loaded.

I have also used BBSAK to install an OS on completely wiped Blackberry's, but it doesn't make a difference in my opinion.

Hope you manage :-)

Now that worked great on my MTN 9300 phone. My wife's phone is a T-Mobile 9300. Even though I deleted the vendor xml file, DM would not install it. Did a wipe with BBSAK and unplugged the USB cable. BIIIIG mistake. It became a brick. Error 507 on white screen. Tried everything I could think of but BBSAK nor DM could connect to the brick.
My wife loved this phone and gave me hell. She even moved to the spare room. (Not a lie). On the second day after I still could not fix it she chucked it on the floor and broke the screen. R400 and a new screen later, I eventually found the fix after trying all the methods on Crackberry and other sites.
A long method with complications so I will start a new thread on this Nuked BB Revive.

Thanks, worked well. I'm kinda new to this and just wondering if there are any further steps involved after a successful flash.
Do i have to re-activate phone on RIM's server or anything like that?
And are battery pulls necessary to settle OS, as Marco described in his "nuked" thread?

EDIT: -seems re-activation may only be necessary if on BES (i'm not), or if email issues crop up. More info here

Please feel free to clear this up for a newbie

Usually the newer phones register themselves on the network (when it restarts and before replacing your data), you will see a yellow envelope in the notification area. The message is "Your handheld has been registered with the wireless network". It is possible to manually register the handheld too, as described in you link.

I always do a battery pull after an upgrade and after the data was restored to the phone - this is probably an unnecessary habit, but it works for me.

As an aside, with the new BB10 OS based on QNX we won't need frequent restarts after installing apps. I am already experiencing this on my Blackberry Playbook.
