I was just looking for something in my messages log and came across entries for my firewall dropping a bunch of connections from a certain ip. Being inquisitive and all I just decided to see where this ip was coming from and I see it's somebodies router config on port 80 with admin/admin username and password :erm:

Well at least I know now that Egypt also has has poor bastards on 1meg connections :D

I find it comes down to IT guys more than anything. When setting up these routers for clients, they don't bother to change the default security settings.

Also, same goes for wireless APs. I often see passwords like "aabbccddee" being used...

Bigger worry is why would Remote Management / WAN Connections be enabled by default?

Naughty you :D

Did you change the oke's username and password? :D

I don't have a worry with my router(s) as it's being controlled by Smoothwall. So the ne'er-do-well can try to hack for all he can, he just won't get past the Smoothwall...

1st off People that leaves any log in information default... you are dumb!

2nd even if there are a great number of ID-10T errors out there leaving the info default. If you log into that device without the explicit consent of the owners or administrators you are breaking the law as it states in the ECT ACT amended 2012.

Thanks for the info in point number 2. I still think the people leaving these devices open like this should be prosecuted - they are inviting people in!

Maybe it's high time to enforce licencing like a car licence. You can't operate a computer without one. And to get one, you need to do a PC course which'll teach you the basics of computing.
