Good evening guys.

I'm wondering if anyone of you have experienced this before, and found a work around / know what todo to fix a issue I'm having.

I've got a 2-3 month old D-link DSL-2750u adsl router. I've been experiencing frequent wireless disconnects from this router. The interesting thing is that when I do experience the disconnect, all my other devices in my household also disconnects, so the problem must be on the router. The router had firmware 1.65 loaded, and I subsequently updated the firmware to the latest 1.67 found on d-link south africa's website. I've also tried to switch between 1-13 channels. I still however have the disconnects.

From what I can see, the ADSL connection stay's up, and when my wifi devices in my household connects 2 minutes later, everything continues to function as normal. The frequency is anywhere between 1-4 hours. It's really frustrating. I have approx 7 wifi devices in my home (gaming pc, ps3, media center pc, phones and ipads), so it can't be that I've reached the maximum of devices that the router could handle.

Trolling through some posts on the internet, I've found one or two people with a similar problem, but no resultion. Any ideas?

Martin

Hi Guys.

Ok, so I managed to solve the problem. Not sure if its a bug in the firmware or interference, but I'd like to share the resolution here. I dropped the bandwidth megahertz of the wifi component to 20MHz instead of the default 40MHz. I've not had a disconnect for over two days now. So follow the steps:

1. Log into the administration portal using your browser.
2. Click on the 'Advanced' tab at the top.
3. Click on the 'Advanced Settings' under the 'Wireless Settings' portion.
4. Select '20MHz in both bands' from the dropdown list options next to the 'Bandwidth' item.
5. Save the settings and restart the router.

Like I said, this worked for me. Not sure if it's a bug / interferece, but with this settings, I've had successful results!

Hi there,

Im considering also getting the D-LINK DSL-2750U. Since you resolved the above issue, have you had any other issues? Are you happy with the router?

Any more frequent disconnects?

I don't have any issues with my 2750U. It runs like a dream and wireless speeds are pretty fast. It's easy to setup and ridiculously powerful if you want to get technical.

Hi guys,

I'm having the exact same problem as the OP. I've tried the whole range of channels and also the 20mhz workaround which didn't work for me. I'm on the latest firmware (1.67). Do you guys perhaps have any ideas on how to get the wireless functioning as it should?

Edit: Now when I select 20mhz I can't even connect to the wireless network. It picks up the network and 'connects' but then there is no access to the internet, it then drops the connection shortly after.

Thank you in advance!

Sorry for the double post!

Out of interest what is your current wireless configuration? If possible can you give me the break down of which channel, mhz and what is enabled/disabled etc? Would be a great help.

Thanks a lot...

planning to get one

I am planning to get one, but am in two minds on whether i should. So since your fix, have you been alright?
I am connecting 3 cellphones, 2 tablets, and 2 laptops as well as my Samsung BDplayer for streaming video from my pc (all wirelessly). Do you think this router is suitable for my usage?

Thanks in advance:)

I'm connecting 2 phones, sometimes 4 - 5, my computer, my tv, my laptop and my receiver and its seems to be working good after I updated the software for the router.

I am experiencing the same problems again, lately.

Wireless Multimedia. Wha ?

I am experiencing the same problems again, lately.

Telkom installed my new line in earlier in April, which came with this DLink 2750u router. The initial experience was great, a big jump up from the Hauwei B683 that never allowed wired clients to view their wireless counterparts, despite the UPnP and network name support all being "ON".

The 2750u maintained the ADSL connection flawlessly; but this same Wifi dropout issue has started to appear more and more frequently.

Due to the location of the router in the house, most devices are connected via wifi, only the NAS media server is connected via ethernet. The wifi disconnection is a small issue when only the internet is affected. When media is being streamed to a device like an iPad or Boxee the interruption in service is very annoying.

Trying all of the suggestions littered around the internet (in this thread and linked below), like: change the frequency in advanced wifi settings to 20Mhz in both bands, upgrade firmware (now version 1.72), reset the router, get a replacement unit (duh), or assign static local IP addresses all delivered limited success.

So far, what IS WORKING came from fiddling the WMM settings. This protocol is based on the 802.11e standard and hales from the turn-of-the-millenimum. Right now, this is entirely disabled on my router since I don't Airplay video, I don't need it.

The likeliest cause for wifi interruptions is the power saving setting on WMM. The 'net warns of reduced wifi speeds... this warning is typically 5 years old. And this is not the case on my network.

Solved my problem: Disable WMM APSD.

Post back if this helps you.

It's a **** router with a known issue.

Buy something else.

Even the cheap chinese stuff is better.

Your advice saved me from hoofing this f#cking router out the door.
It is a lifesaver.

THANK YOU! I was about to order the most expensive router i could find on wootware, and thn drive to somerset west to fetch it!

I changed the setting yesterday @ 3pm, and its been smooth sailing every since!
I know it works... since it was dropping 3-4x a daay that i knew about... and working from home on a VPN - thats highly annoying!

Now if you could come up with a cost effective way of dealing with load shedding :-)
