Path of Exile

After tiring of another game in the same genre, I tried Path of Exile, which has just recently gone into open beta.

Initially I thought it was pretty crap, but after putting quite a few hours in, I have started to enjoy it quite a lot. The passive skill tree:



Is just bloody ridiculous, the skills themselves are pretty interesting, and generally, it's a very different take on the typical ARPG fare (in a good way).

Plus, it's totally free.

Online only.

I agree, it is fantastic. Especially at higher levels things get pretty interesting. It is the perfect game for you if you think that the best part of the game is creating the perfect build/character. There are just so many options and paths (pun!) and the best part for me is that many of those options are rubbish I love planning and building a "perfect" build. That is what made Diablo II so fantastic.

Just a pity there are so many high profile games to get through now like Tomb Raider and Bioshock: Infinite but when I get some spare time I really want to get into this.

Finished it once on hardcore got to the next difficulty then died Make sure you get as many hp nodes as possible.

I have an elemental split arrow, chain, life on hit, blood magic Bow Marauder. I am currently able to run 5 auras. Up to act 2 merciless, but now I need to find some chaos resist as the chaos dmg in act 2 western forest is insane when you have -52% chaos resist. I dont have outstanding gear as I cannot afford it yet. Got some Felshrine grinding to do to make the currency for buying a 5/6 link chest. And some chaos res on my rings I think.
Then act 2 will be my bitch.
Playing on hardcore is tough, but I like the challenge.

When I transitioned to bows, I was doing like 47 DPS... :wtf:

I'm level 55...

Just got a bit underwhelmed at that point.

Getting to that stage you see in all the fast paced youtube vids of gameplay, now that looks fun, it's just pretty hard to get there...

I find that it all depends on elemental dmg on gear and in your auras. I have Frenzy as my single target attack. It hits at about 3 attacks per second and does over 1000 Lightening dmg on the top end. With 80% increased ele dmg from the tree, and some small bits of lightening dmg on gear, this number increases at a drastic rate. Total dps is about 3k with all considered. My split arrow hits for around 650 dps per arrow, and that is 5 arrows that all chain to hit a total of 15 times. Lightening arrow would be stronger, but I don't like relying on the OP builds myself.

I must admit, I know what you mean about seeing these strong builds rocking it out and wanting to do that, then finding it damn hard to get there.

But this char is my first to a highish level. He is 64/65 right now and doing very well considering my lack of currency etc.
