I have read through many of those complaints and full names, ID numbers etc are included. There are allegations made about professionals and their full names and other details are included. That can severely damage a person's reputation. Bulls**t!

Quite true, but what they are saying is that nothing from any dockets have been leaked.

Well he's obviously referring to the sms system perhaps? That I know for a fact is 100% anonymous, but the web-report one is by far not anonymous (as per the form you fill in).

How? SMS linked to cell number. Simcard RICA'd. You can still find out who sent the SMS. Or did I misunderstand you?
 
I am sure by now that cold calling marketing companies have already got their dirty paws on that list of numbers, names and email addresses.

This is very true, but no one ever said that criminal case information has been compromised.

Ngubane explained that the corporate systems of the SAPS are hosted in a building in the Pretoria CBD (which is a National Keypoint), while the website is hosted in the data centre of SITA in Centurion.

In a statement to the media, Ngubane maintained that the information that was accessed was information that is published usually, or information that is made public on the website in any case.

Another bulls*it lie. Obviously this guy only started working in the police a few days ago and never saw their own website. Nowhere do they publish the address, phone numbers and ID numbers of people contacting them. If this was the case the sh*t would have hit the fan already.

Challenged on the clearly private information that was stored in the website’s database that has been made public, SITA general manager Daniel Mashao admitted that it was an oversight on their part.

Bullsh*t again. They should have admitted that their staff has no design or security experience and has no idea on how to safeguard information online.

He explained that they had expanded the SAPS website feedback functionality where it was mainly used to submit things such as congratulatory messages, and that when they did so they should have changed the system to store the data more securely.

In future, Mashao said they will ensure that any such sensitive information is encrypted before being transmitted to where it will be stored securely.

The hackers had root access and that the reason why they extracted the information from a database. Some hackers have the ability to get encrypted database information and decrypt it.

Mashao said that of the roughly 15,000 lines of information stored, most was anonymous or not sensitive.
